Yeah because they are humans and humans are pretty much wired to trust parental units and by extension other adults. So when adults have always told you or by majority at least, the truth, then they tell you something that you have absolutely no experiential context to contradict, you will literally invent 'logic' to support and incorporate that information into your world view. So yeah they dont 'understand' it but if you lead them enough they will pretend they do until that pretense seems like fact to them.
