I met James Hetfield when I was in high school, while I was working at chillie’s. Not wanting to be “that guy” I avoided saying anything until he was on his way out, when I said “hey, I love your work.” He stopped and cut it up with me for like 10 minutes. I was just a bus boy at chillies. He is the real deal. Edit: I like coming back here from time to time to see what people are saying. A couple of take aways: 1. people got really upset I spelled Chili’s wrong. You’re going to be ok. I’m sure I didn’t hurt Chili’s feelings. 2. Some of yall are awesome for defending me. I assure you, I’m fine and my feelings aren’t hurt, but the fact you would go out of your way to make sure my feelings aren’t hurt is very touching. You people are what makes the world a great place. 3. I am amused at how many people think I made that story up. What a random thing to make up. James Hetfield lived in Marin county California for years, and got hungry from time to time, and CHILLIES has some dank burgers. This was 2004/2005, Terra Linda Chili’s which I think is a Black Bear Diner now.

Man the mystery of a band and initial attraction through an album cover is something that I miss and we will not have again. Back in the 80s and early 90s, the mystique of a band made them rock stars. The only way we could find out anything about them was through music magazines or occasional MTV interviews. And bands like Metallica were even more underground. Man I miss buying records and tapes.

Being a liberal guy, I've known for years that James is a conservative. I think it's a little silly, and very band wagon-esque that people are shocked by James' convervatism to the point of boycotting shows. My own political views will not stop me from buying every single Metallica album, or going to their shows every chance I get. Additionally, regardless of my political views, I respect James' views because I'm a fucking adult, and that's what adults do.

finally, a liberal who seems to have a brain in his skull. I think people blow politics way out of proportion especially with celebrities and actors and musicians. For example, I may not like if idk Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day yells out f trump and f this and f that and is very very open about their political views, whatever. Imma still go to his concerts and stuff. I love the music, thats what i am there for.
@Slassh69x
@Slassh69x 7 жыл бұрын
Most of us have brains man... I think the amount of hyperbole that gets thrown around at the same time when talking about politics is a huge reason why they are so polarizing. I wouldn't go so far as to say James is a conservative. I think he leans right in some regards but on average I'd say he's more leftward leaning. I'm not talking about the radical left that gave him the incentive to move to Colorado, just more left than right. He even said that he thinks progressivism is good because it's moving the world forward and hes down with that. What he doesn't like is being told what to do when the reasoning is just downright moronic. Being a lead singer/songwriter and guitar player of the worlds last extremely successful metal band you would think.... rebel. Yes indeed, he absolutely is that and I love him for it.

I met James when I was working security at the Sharks Arena where I worked. He was a guest during the Stanley Cup Finals and came up to get interviewed at one of the outdoor media stages where I was posted and I got to chat with him before his turn. After he was done a bunch of people swarmed him for photos but he managed to come and shake my hand before he went off on his way. It was an epic ending to my job because I hated it, so I quit that very week and went on vacation.

James is one of the most solid, humble, fucking badass dudes there ever was. There's also an old video of someone researching and recording in a lab setting what happens when he screams. I miss these non-jaded interviews Joe used to have. His enthusiasm and a sort of naive curiosity made these shows so interesting. This was without a doubt the one of the most personable James Hetfield interviews ever. Had to re-watch it again after a few years. I'm surprised that Lars didn't come on during the 72 Seasons promotion. But then again, I believe they're now more exclusively locked in with The Howard Stern Show, as they also do Jimmy Kimmel; both Stern & Kimmel being close friends.

When I was 12, I got my first Metallica CD, I had talked to a cousin who is about 8yrs older than me, and he was a big Metallica fan. I asked him what album I should get since I was just getting to know the band. He recommended the black album, he said that it was a good start for someone who is beginning to listen to Metallica. To this day I still believe that he was right in giving me that advice, it was the logical option since it was a very digestible album, however I got “...And justice for all”... I remember coming home, and playing that cd, it was just exactly as James described here, laying on the floor just listening to it, and from time to time looking at the booklet, reading the lyrics (English is not my first language)... It was simply amazing, I was with my brother and we just loved the whole damn thing from beginning to end. Priceless!

@ThatMartinJF: Absolutely right. I don't know how that guy thought it's about Vietnam after listening to the lyrics. It might have been, but it's not. Then again it could be universal. He probably thought the helicopter in the beginning sounds like something from Apocalypse Now. Did they have helicopters in WWI? Maybe that sets the mood and if you listen to the lyrics, you might see it happening in Vietnam. But I think Hetfield took inspiration from the movie and wrote some more universal war lyrics.

This guy and the music his band made, literally helped me survive my youth. I don't know if I met him, that I wouldn't be a big crying mess, not just for the amount of gratitude I have as a musician, but also all of the emotion tied to their songs. I think you'd need a squeegee to mop me up. Thank you James and Metallica for everything.

Joe has that something that makes him seem really approachable, not to mention he's very popular and I can't think of any reason to hate him. He gets the best out of people in his interviews.

This dude is a great example of being an extremely rich person but not because of the money. I really strive to have the attitude that he does. He's one of (if not the most) the most humble and kind musician I've ever seen.

About 10 sum odd years ago my pops owned a bar and godsmack rolled through town and played at a civic center here. One of my best friends mom lived in Massachusetts and lived next door to sully from godsmack, and grew up with him. Well when they came to town she ended up getting ahold of them. They had a couple off days after that show and they came to our bar for a couple hours to drink and eat. Gotta say Sully was awesome and I was young like 12-13 he told me a couple of cool stories and was really down to earth. That bar was sick we also had Charlie Moore the mad fisherman come and do the same thing. I was older for that one and he was mad funny.

Jonah Falcon well the best thing about rogans podcasts for the most part he wants his guest to feel comfortable and allowing someone to talk about something they are passionate about makes them feel more natural therefore we get to see a different side of James
