I met Yoel around 2013ish down in Florida at the Deerfield Walmart on Hillsboro and 441. I was a huge fan of him since the Sydney Olympics. I kept staring at him and finally approached him and told him in Spanish that he looked exactly like this Cuban Wrestler and he laughed and said it was him. I was so stoked. Shook his hand and it was different. Just a man made outta wood. Super nice dude though. Soft spoken and has a good energy.

Evidently, he's also incredibly well spoken in his native language as well. One of his trainers and a few others have referred to him as a Warrior Poet and I think that's dope.

I took a picture with Yoel during the week before his first fight with Whittaker. I put my arm on his shoulder to take a picture, I've never felt a human being with muscles like that in my entire life. His shoulder felt like putting your arm on an oak table. Not in any way exaggerating. He was like a bodybuilder flexing as hard as he can while he was completely relaxed.
