This may put me way out in the weeds in terms of passing for a civilized human being, but my attitude is that *EVERYTHING* is fair game for comedy. Comedy is what makes all the horrific shit that happens in life tolerable, why would you want to make it off limits? If you don't like a joke, or it triggers you, that's fine, absolutely fine. There are jokes I think are unfunny or insensitive, or laugh at the expense of vulnerable people, and if you tell those kinds of jokes, chances are, I won't like your act. But I'm not going to take to the internet with flaming pitchforks and demand that comedy clubs don't book you for gigs. It just means that you have bits I don't find funny. But when your angle is that you want to put someone out of work because they're making art you don't like, you're no different from any other prude. You're Tipper Gore trying to run rock music off the radio. You're Mary Whitehouse trying to get Chuck Berry's music off the air in the U.K. You're a 200 foot douche-canoe, and you need to step the fuck off.

I remember when "no means no" and "yes means yes". Like, Louis literally asked two consenting adults if a sexual act could be done and if they were okay with that. They said yes, now we take issue with this? Do we have to consider each other, not as humans, but our place in society, and if we have more power than the other person, so "yes" might actually mean "no, but I'm too afraid to say that because of your position of power". With that thought process, should everyone stay in their own class when thinking about relationships? Is Cinderella a fucked up story because her consent wasn't actually consent, because the Prince should've understood the power he had as the prince of a kingdom, and she felt like she couldn't say "no" to the Prince?

I’ve had a treat last week to be at first roll right in front of the GREAT Louis CK. He’s in Europe doing small rooms for 200 people, celphones locked inside Yondr bags. Tony Woods and Joe Machi opening. It’s already a perfectly executed 50 minutes set. Loved the jokes, laughed my teeths off and I can’t wait for the special to come out and watch again. That’s a man who deserves his carreer back, instead of those oportunists that are playing the “i’m offended” card.

The thing I appreciated about Louis CK is that he didn't deny deny deny allegations like many people did. He collaborated the stories of the women. Then he said he thought he obtained consent and then realized later that the power dynamic was an issue. What he did definitely wasn't okay but the fact that he actually can learn and improve let's me think we can forgive him as a society.
@jeremiahjohnson1513 Жыл бұрын
The last allegation was in 2003. That was before Louis hit it big. At that time he was a semi obscure and only moderately successful comedian. There was no "power dynamic" in the sense he was a big time famous comedian using his star power and money to get away with bad behavior. That mischaracterization is one of the ways he is being made out to be worse than he really is. What he did wasn't good, but he never touched or assaulted anyone, it was creepy and inappropriate but not evil. It was forgivable and his career shouldn't have been destroyed over it, he apologized and was publicly humiliated, that should have been enough but the Woke mob wouldn't accept it.

@@jeremiahjohnson1513 what he did was something that was verbally communicated as consentual. BECAUSE they said YES! if we as human beings can not be responsible for our own words, then we will never be anything more tan over grown children who do ot DESERVE the ability to make their own decisions! PERIOD!

@@blorkpovud1576 what did he do get consent to masturbate in front of someone? I never understood the big deal. “He was in a position of power he shouldn’t have done it”, if you can’t say no to someone you have some problems. He didn’t just pull his dick out and be like “is this ok?”. He asked them, I thought that’s what everyone was championing for. Fuck off

People are so frustrated with the state of their lives that they're just irrationally lashing out at the first thing they can to make it through the day thinking that maybe they're not the worst off in the world. It's a society full of sick people that are being celebrated and empowered into their mental and emotional sickness.

Its just funny to me how wen this whole Louis thing first dropped i remember vividly watching the podcast & hearing Joe be completely on the other side & almost shunning Louis & acting like he was some disciple of Satan raping & forcing people to watch him beat off but now he's acting like he's been championing him the whole time & that he's for comedians... Bullshit!

A little sad that Joe doesn't recognize it's actually a really good joke and Louis has it pretty tight already. Joe keeps saying it was "half baked" "not ready" etc. Joe, it's better than 90% of your set.

Comedians; are suppose to go to the uncomfortable places, trample on propriety, shock and charm you. The only one in the room that can mock the king in his own court. When you kill the jester you kill your own liberty. CK has always done this. He is still a genius at it. Personally this half done show was better than his last “finished” show.

I went to Joe’s show maybe a year or so ago. He had everybody lock their phones into some kind of bag to prevent things like the recording issue from happening. I get why they do it but it was a fiasco to get everybody’s shit into the bags. It ended up causing the show to start like an hour late because of how long it made it take to get into the venue but I respected him a lot because he told the venue that the show wouldn’t start until everybody had been able to get to their seats.

this is a great conversation. also, it's nice to see that a GIANT show like this is struggling with audio sync. it's probably the most frustrating thing when editing.
