I cannot believe Joe Rogan has nothing to prove he was a legit fighter back in the day no video or picture of him fighting in tournaments or in the cage. The only b******* video we have of him is spinning back kick he's been fooling us for years I call that a con man not a comedian and got rich acting like he was a MMA fighter knowing he's not

@MrShoryuken1
@MrShoryuken1 5 жыл бұрын
@@ralphrodriguez8211 You are competing in the 170lbs division. You must weigh in the day before the fight at 170lbs or less. If not, you will be disqualified. But to gain an advantage, you want to be coming into the fight at the maximum possible weight. Therefore, in the week before the fight, you deliberately dehydrate yourself as much as possible. The body is mostly water and water weighs a lot, 1kg per litre in fact. After the weigh in, you have 24 hours to rehydrate yourself before the fight. There is no weigh in on fightnight, so even though you weighed officially 170lbs yesterday, you rehydrated today and now you weigh 193lbs. Watch Canelo vs Cotto and you'll see what I mean. Canelo is probably a middle weight in the ring, even though it's a welterweight fight.

I feel like we all see it going to more weight classes eventually right? I agree bro. I just can't figure out why Dana seems so opposed to it. He implies that guys that aren't good enough to be champs now will try to become champs in new weight classes. But what does that even mean? Is he saying the quality if the fights will drop as a result? Doesn't really express a lot of confidence in his fighters imo.

It saves head trauma ( even tho you still bang your head on the floor a lot ) but it fucks up your joint esp your neck and your back . Plus you always find those mfs who won't let go of holds till they break something. And from a monetary point of view ji-jitsu competitions hardly have any money . So if you really are gonna be an one field fighter and gonna beat up your body , why not take striking that pays better ?

You got no idea my friend. I am 32 years old and spent 3 years in a bed. Crumpled up discs in my neck and back. Arthritis in my shoulders and hands. Some torn knees. My ribs tore out of my sternum and I have chronic chest pain for 6 years now. Can't fight and ended up with nothing to show for 8 years of training and fighting. RIP. I wouldn't recommend MMA to anyone. I still love the sport, but it certainly can take your quality of life away. I assume I will have a shortened life span because of it. Chronic pain increases risk of all sorts of diseases including cancer.

Holy shit dude.. For real?? Now what? What are going to do? What can you do? I feel kind of guilty because i love watching MMA but would never do it because of the health risks. I am considering jiu jitsu at a very low level, just training. Damn man, hope you can still optimize your situation a little maybe throug diet, some soft yoga and slow breathing/meditation exercize for stress release. Our body is millions of years old, it is an acient temple full of wisdom to guide our infant mind, cherish/take care of it like nothing els. Many people get cancer or some auto immuun illness because they (like doctors) ignore or don't know what the body wants/needs or is telling/showing us. Good luck man, you'll always be a fighter no matter what but now it's time to fight for and guard your body.

Joe is so right on this. I’m an MD and a big UFC fan. I could be totally wrong but, in addition to adding some weight classes (but especially if not), why not weigh fighters in the arena within tight time to the fight? It would require a combo of weight violation penalties and - if too far off weight - always having a back up fighter ready right up until fight time (think of it like an NFL back up QB). Just a thought.

Nerd here: I'd be really interested in work looking into the trade-off between competence and physical damage incurred through fighting. Obviously, like in weightlifting or long-distance running, if you're seeking to preserve your long-term health (i.e. same life-expectancy as the average, or greater) you can't maximise fitness to compete with champions, but I'd bet there's an analogous 80-20 effect at play (20% of the damage, 80% of the benefit) if you're just a regular person that wants to become competent in fighting. In fact, I'm sure it must already have been discovered in some form by cultures around the world, but I don't know which...

Besides the health aspect, there should be a pride aspect too. Just fight what you weigh. How can you be a 190lb man who shrinks down to 155, wins then struts around like the head rooster? my question is.... why do they check weight the day before the fight? Actually the morning of the day before the fight. If a guy fights at 170 he gets on the scale he is 170 or 171. Then leaves starts drinking and eating gets to fight time he may weight 180 plus. That may be a reach, however a whole lot more than the weight class permits. So, why dont they check weight right before they go into the octagon and be 170 at fight time. Wouldn't that stop a lot of this?

As a person who has some experience with chess and who follows it from time to time, and who has a brother who trained JJ, i can say that chess is way more demanding. Its not even close. You can advance pretty quickly in JJ, just be fit, do what your told and memorize the locks. I dont think Joe has any serious experience with chess players who are actually good. He should try it if he wants a challenge. I could beat joe in a game of chess, but there are levels to this. There are people who are so good at it its just not fair when you play them. Haha. There are no shortcuts in chess, either you learn by playing those who are better then you and study, or your not going anywhere. Chess games at high levels can last for hours.

Joe is arrogant in saying that it still takes awhile for a chess master to beat a novice. I'd like to see him play a GM or a master-level chess computer. The game would be over in less than ten moves. The chance of him winning would be lower than the chance of a white belt tapping a black belt.

That’s not to say that if you are in the city where the nationals are being held you won’t see competitors swimming, or in the hotel sauna, or running. But their is a huge difference between cutting 5-8 pounds the night before and cutting 20+ pounds with a week to recover before the fight.

Look most people cut the same amount of weight like it’s not a huge difference so if 2 guys fight at 170 and get both weigh around 190 naturally why not just have the athletic commission weigh every at their natural weight and then reclassify the what weight classes they fight in for fucks sake they are both gonna weigh about the same thing when they step into the cage and it’s so much healthier plus the fights would probably be even better that weight cut fucks you up. I’ve only been doing jiu jitsu for 6 years and I wrestled in highschool I have never been unwilling to engage someone bigger than me. If you’re not willing to fight someone that’s 10-15lbs heavier then why the fuck fight at all

They addressed dehydration in high school and college wrestling years ago. When I was in HS/College 20 yrs ago it was anything goes. Wrestlers today have to be hydro tested and then certified for their weight class. They can only drop two max. You can still cheat, but it’s way harder. One boy where I live now, under his coaches direction, would cut from 140 to 106. He was dominant wrestler, but growing while cutting. He ended up missing Regionals because he was so dehydrated he almost died. The coach was of course fired. In the UFC more weight classes and weight certification procedures would do what Joe day the sport needs the most.

I know a guy who was a state champ wrestler 3 or 4 years and cut a ton of weight his whole childhood. His 3 brothers are all 6'2" to 6'3", while my friend was 5'5".

@Luca Panda A master in chess will never lose to a novice. Chess games take longer because it's a turn based game dumbass. You've obviously never played chess before. There are SO MANY MORE variables in chess. There are 69,352,859,712,417 different possible moves in the first 10 moves.

No the REAL danger of MMA is not a long term head injury or even a general long term injury. The REAL danger is not what YOU know but what you don't know and your opponent does know, I.E take Antonia Nogueira V's Bob Sapp, Sapp went to drop A.N on his head luckly he knew to grab Bobb Sapps leg instantly had he not done so he'd be in a wheel chair now,....so the real risk in MMA is basically knowing and studying the rule book and interpreting any gray areas to your advantage....in other words actually understanding that you can die in a cage and you'll only have yourself to blame if you do. BTW its easy for Rogan to sit there 25 years after the event and say he would have competed, but lets be honest he has had ample opportunity to do so,....the way he talks about fighting sober makes me wonder how the HELL he talks about it when he's drunk, he probable thinks he's Thor. I reckon he should actually put his fist where his mouth is and do an over 40's event, then we''ll see.
