Mickey Rourke was and is an extremely talented man..He did not go crazy he simply made mistakes and with the second chance of the movie "The wrestler" he proved that he still is an extremely talented actor. He is real and raw..something hollywood can not relate to. I admire his work and his ability to take accountability.

I think its fair to say he has been affected by the whole LA/Hollywood scene. Hes living his life the way he wants to but he does look a bit eccentric to say the least compared to his 90s days. He looks effeminate and thats without taking the unfortunate face surgery into account. As long as hes happy, who cares.

Young Mickey Rourke was (and is) a hallmark actor. Marlon Brando level. He had a horrific abusive childhood which lead to becoming a boxer prior to acting. He was made tough to survive living at all. No one told him about the politics of Hollywood & he insulted some top brass . Being boycotted by them lead him to go back to boxing. He saw it as “unfinished business”. He makes the best of things. He’s unique in that he continually evolves. He’s gotten therapy for his ptsd or whatever complications 😢resulted from tragically hard life yet maintaining a sensitivity only found in “the greats” in movies. Like Brando, he only knows how to be honest. I will always pay to see him in any movie he’s in…why? He’s a once in a lifetime actor, and a gift to behold. Many levels..

Mickey Rourke at the beginning of his film career has two scenes with William Hurt in Body Heat and he’s magnetic in the same way that Brando and James Dean were magnetic. He’s incredible in these two scenes. He’s not doing a lot of physical business. He’s not overacting or chewing up the scenery. Quite the opposite in fact. He’s simply talking to William Hurt. But by the end of these two scenes, you can see him become a movie star.

Mickey Rourke suffered a difficult childhood that contributed to his downfall as a Hollywood actor. Trouble with authority. Gave the big shots a hard time and got a reputation for being difficult. Terrific actor. Good looking. He went back to boxing and got his ass kicked. Great actor. Not so great boxer. I respect the guy. Like his films.

I feel bad for you guys thinking that about yourselves after 40. Since I know people who are stronger and doing better in their 40s than in their 20s and 30s, but they treated their bodies and health well. I mean 40s is relatively young if you take care of yourself. Even in the 50s you can be pretty healthy and strong. My dad is 70 and runs 5 miles every day looks in his 50s. He's stronger than most people in their 20s physically and was making a ton of money all the way up until his 60s. His testosterone levels are 670 and he's never taken anything before, and him and my mother are on 0 medications between the both of them. He's never heard of TRT either. I honestly feel bad for you guys if you feel like that in your 40s, you should be pretty damn close to your prime still legitimately. Don't look at it negatively, you can always improve your outlook and where you are in life. Just wait until you're not young at all anymore, and are actually really getting old like your 60s to 70s and think about how you will feel. Mickey is on drugs man. He's almost 70 and his deterioration throughout life is not typical, he looks awful. Im not quite 40, but im in my prime still with everything. I have made improvements in my mid to late 30s as opposed to my 20s without a doubt. You guys should be getting more hot chicks around 40 just as easy as 20's. You should have more money, and even if you're not doing well with that most guys in terms of looks look best in their early 40s according to younger women. I understand a lot of this is genetics and you guys may have bad genes, but you can improve your lives and your body to where you will feel better and be doing better than you're doing now. Be confident in yourself and your abilities even if you haven't done well up until now, that can always change if you want it bad enough. Hopefully you guys are at least happy, but the sound of your post was negative. I know this is long, but i'm trying to help because the two of you sound depressed, and don't have a good outlook on life overall. Wish you guys the best, and hope things improve as you get older which it can if you take care of yourself.
@wilhelmhesse13482 жыл бұрын
Dude these are just facts, life for most alters physically and mentally after 40. Yes it is possible to become physically fitter and stronger mentally after 40 but for most people and here I emphasize for most people that isn't the case. Seeing your hair fall off, wrinkles form, developing muscular skeletal problems, becoming more susceptible to diseases you wouldn't normally get sick of for over a week with, losing your libido, having EDS, these are things that like it or not happen to alot of males in the West past their 40s. Is it right to have a positive mindset and not be a victim to the norm? Yes sir it definitely is and recognising the problem is the first step to that. Mickey has lived a 1000 lifetimes in as far as what most people strive for in life i.e fame and riches plus all that comes with that (good or bad) and he is what getting to 70? In my book he has had positive and negative life experiences that could fill up a ten thousand page biography written in size 5 letters. Yes we all have our story to tell for sure, I agree and all your points are very valid, however facts are life is harsh period... I'm just pointing this out.

Mickey Rourke has always been an exceptional actor. At one time, he was basically disgraced from Hollywood, Carie Otis left him, he couldn t get parts in movies, ran out of money and made a move at boxing, got his face beat up pretty bad and had some work done on it. Came back in the game, played in the expendables, Iron man, the wrestler and many more with great talent. He doesn't give a shit what people think, he wears wigs and flashy clothes and has a nice relationship with a beautiful woman. Mickey Rourke in Barfly. Best acting I have ever seen! What a performance.

Mickey Rourke, at his best, in the '80's, did one great film after another: "Year of the Dragon", "The Pope of Greenwich Village" with Eric Roberts, "Diner" and "Rumblefish", both with a slew of up and coming talented actors. "Barfly", with Faye Dunaway, is one of my all-time favorite films, really funny, in an understated way, based on writings of Charles Bukowski. And then there was "Homeboy", with Christopher Walken, about a naive boxer who is being taken advantage of by others, getting paid to take dives, and later getting used as "muscle" by a low-level criminal. It may have been training for that movie that got him into boxing, that proved to be his personal downfall.

Well, that's not true. That's what he says, but if you take a look at his cameo in the movie "The Pledge", with Jack Nicholson, AFTER his boxing career, he still looked very much like himself, albeit a bit older. Problem is, after that he went on to have more cosmetic procedures, probably to look younger, and THAT's when he messed up his face.
@mrcanarsie2 жыл бұрын
This hypothesis has no validity. Mickey had a brutal upbringing which he didn't deal with until many many years later. He also achieved great fame pretty quickly which can warp you. He did one bit part and the next day everyone was calling him and offering him lead roles. This type of thing doesn't happen anymore but back in the early 80's there was a very short list of male actors so the business was hungry for new talent. His talent was immense and he was also a great great looking man and relatable to dudes as well as adored by chicks. He is and will always be my favorite actor.
@Kinesiology4117 ай бұрын
Vanity Fair did a cover story on Mickey right when he went back to boxing. He was still gorgeous, but was losing every fight. He spoke very openly in that article about how acting felt too feminine to him and that he hadn't found a way to be comfortable with that. So Joe isn't making that part up. If you can find that interview online somewhere, it was quite good. I used to have a huge stack of my old Vanity Fair magazines until fairly recently. I'd read that one a few times. Great cover photo as well.
