All three are incredible guitar players. Why is it always 'he's better than he is'--just appreciate them for who they are. I've heard Joe tell this story before and I think it's a great story and they have all earned their place in music.

I just love how all of these guys are so humble and openly show such admiration for each other an other great musicians and teachers. Amazing. All of them.

Many musicians criticize Joe for not being a musician that plays from the heart. His songs are real as if you can hear a singer putting vocals down to his songs and yes he doesn't hold back what he's capable of. If you ask me, it takes all kinds of people to make up a world and someone had to go this kind of distance to be k own as the man who taught and mentored the greatest players, making him in my mind the greatest and most determined of them all. Sits at the top as "the teacher"

ahhh kirk is the guitar player that influenced millions of kids to pick up the guitar and learn how to play ,the most out of all of them,he ain't the best but his solo's had a bigger impact then all of them combined ,ppl here don't even know wtf they are talking about ,it's like singing ,there is no point in having the best voice if you don't know how to use it ,it's how you use it also .

I knew back in the day Joe was involved in The Eyes of Horror. Possessed was one of my favorite bands. Always baffled me though. Over 30 years later this sheds alot of light on it. Cool

Kirk is one of the best all time. His style fits perfectly in Metallica. Blusy, melodic, sentimental, aggressive... All this creates is unique style. Love his solos, way differents than the other bands. Wha wah Master? I don't care, Kirk is awesome guitarist and person.

Kirk has attitude and stamina, thats what you need in Metallica. No one can keep up a thousand shows like Kirk, even hes sick he still play like in 1998, garage inc tour. He has a dedication and patience to succes.

I 1st herd of Sach, then bought Surfing With The Alien in 1989, when I was at Fort Gordon GA, for US Army I.E.T. (Initial Entry Training, which is our occupational training, right after Basic Training) I put the cassette in, pressed play, & my gaw'damn jaw dropped. Been a Sach fan ever since!

Guitar is ever evolving. I believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Kirk Hammett played guitar at THAT point at a higher level than most! HE and his bandmates were CREATING A NEW GENRE! Do you understand how important Kirks ideas musically were?! Kirk was inventing not copying anyone! I forget though we live in a time where if you want to learn a song you just click on KZfaq and learn it, not EARN IT by long hours of practice and no EASY and CONVIENIENT methods like KZfaq to skip through the theory and all essentials! I was learning in the 80's (and still am) and knew only a few guitarists because things were NOT easily accessible in regards to instruction because noone (parents) didn't have $ for a kid to TRY to learn and because of the lack of EASE and DRIVE put it down a day to a week later to NEVER pick it up again because "it's too hard" and "I don't have anyone to show me"! We live in a time where EVERYONE wants the EASY way and clicks on a Steve Via lesson and learns something of brilliance without knowing the foundation and understanding the value of why he is doing what he is doing! It all comes EASY these days so it is easy to understand why you think you are the cosumate professional and critics! Kirk, THANK YOU for taking the HARD ROAD! Leave Kirk alone critics, because he didn' have the QUICK and EASY way like KZfaq rd nowadays! METTALLICA RULES!!!!!!!

I lived in Berkeley, CA. when Joe was teaching there at a small music store on the corner of Rose St. and MLK. I had a lot of friends who were taking guitar and bass lessons from Joe at that music store in the early 1980's. Pretty much all of the best rock musicians in Berkeley at that time were studying with Joe.

I used to think highly of Kirk when I was a teen (what did I know?...), I don't anymore but I won't deny some of his works are classics, frayed ends of sanity solo being my favourite.

Lar from Primus, Alex Skolnik of testament, David Bryson of Counting Crows, Charlie Hunter (amazing jazz guy) and Kevin Cadogan of Third Eye Blind were also Satch's students.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe Kirk is actually still damn good but just fed up being in Metallica? It seems like he's been bored for YEARS now and they almost never let him get any significant solos or anything in their new music. If I was him I'd feel the same way.

Interesting that half the comments are haters or defenders of Kirk Hammet. LoL I could have seen this coming though. In the 90’s, Kirk was overrated because we had all these new guys learning guitar. They didn’t know Dream Theater and Steve Vai and these more technical players. So Kirk was one of the best of all time... for them. And one out of 20 of these guitar players were preaching the way of Vai and Satch and the. As these noob guitarists heard what they were preaching, it went to their heads and then they’re say stupid shit like “Kirk Hammet sucks”. Here’s the truth. technically speaking, Kirk is not one of the best but what he writes is beautifully done. People remember his solos. can’t say all that for the majority of shredders out there. It’s not all about being the best. It’s about creating something people love. He is also part of Metallica, which is awesome. He inspired so many people who still regard him very highly.
