Joe was a flawed man, like we all are, but he had a good heart and an unusual enthusiasm and passion for all he endeavored. He wasn't perfect, but we can't learn from people who are perfect. The mistakes Joe made don't mask the good he did. I'd like to think that I can move past my mistakes and continue trying my hardest to be a good person, because that's what Joe did. By the way, "Garageland" was inspired by a review of The Clash in which they were criticized for sounding like a garage band.

Great clip... thanks for posting it! I've heard Joe say "whatever you do, don't mess with the chemistry" on quite a few interviews... I think he definitely regretted what happened re. Mick Jones being 'sacked' and the band ultimately breaking up.... just love the guy...he's so honest! RIP Joe

I was alive at the time of the Clash. Just was never to be able to see them live because I was a kid. Would've loved to seen that concert in Victoria Park with my own eyes.

@ballzsantana You can still appreciate them now, and probably you can find more material by and about them than most fans could access at the time, largely because of the internet. I was a big fan in high school, but I know so much more about them now, because of the net and the books and docs, etc. It is a good time to be a music fan. When I think about how little we based our fandom on back in the 70's, 80's.

Joe meant what he said ,his words came from the heart ,his music also influanced thousands of artists and spoke to a lot of kids of his generation and even now ,his music changed peoples lives and still does ,his spirit alone made people want to better themselves ,it does not matter where he came from he had the balls to go find himself and achieve a lot of great things ,leaving some great music to inspire more people to put together there own bands ,or better themselves at what they do.legand

@ballzsantana I was born during The Clash era so I could't listen to them because I was a baby. But I remember being a little child and listen "Rock The Casbah" on the early eighties on the radio in the Micheal Jackson and Madonna era. Those days you could still even hear The Beatles on the radio frequently. It was great music.

I'm a heavy punk/new wave head and love Joe and The Clash's work. Good music is not hip-hop and hip-hop does not transcend to people with real music taste. :) (No one else bother telling me you "like hip-hop and The Clash because you're open-minded", I don't care.)

@ballzsantana in a sense, you were. so much owes itself to them/the period, especially what little -- it sometimes seems-- critical, uncompromising attitude there still is.

@briteness One would think this'd be easy to figure out, but I don't think it'll get through to these posters. I suspect their "I wish i'd been alive earlier!" crap is just disguised bragging and nothing more. Their fishing for compliments on their tastes.

@santoritime0 DON'T GET ME WRONG, i'm not saying he wasn't a part of it, but he wasn't really anymore a part of it than any of the other members. and certainly not mick jones. haha YOU'RE the one thats superficial if you think joe strummer is the heart and soul of the clash. just cause he is the lead singer or has the loudest mouth or gets the most media attention, doesn't make him "THE CLASH". he only wrote the lyrics for 2 hit songs. that doesn't make him the heart and soul in my book.

Yeah other than the fact I've lived here all my life.Did Joe change nothing? Not true,so many bands formed because of The Clash. He inspired people so that in itself isn't nothing and because he did inspire people as you say it can hardly be meaningless. The guy was fake?Well he followed what he felt was true to the extent it ruined his own band and which led him into a spiral of depression it took 15 years for him to get out of. Hardly fake. Many rock stars reinvent themselves as well
