I was there... Joe gave me a personal,invite... I'd worked on a bunch of his gigs, through the years, He'd rememberd me, from the early days... At 6 foot 6 inches, tall, I did stick out,I guess.. None like him EVER, in my 37 years as a roadie/stagehand,etc. took the time, after gig, on my birthday, to burn a big one, with me... One of the nicest PEOPLE I've met in my time on this planet..

I’m old and had a chance to see The Clash twice, in Pittsburgh and in Philadelphia. Very intense shows. Driving home from the Phila show, which was at the Spectrum and we’d sat straight out from the stage in the mezzanine - it’s a very big arena - my wife and I stopped trying to have a conversation in the car because our ears were ringing so much we couldn’t understand what the hell the other person was saying. (We’ve both recovered our hearing in the intervening 40 years) Peace and love to all. Don’t let the bastards grind you down.

I was at that Pittsburgh show too. A real highlight for me. Great seats and they were all that mattered in that moment. And one of a select few that still do.

Saw The Clash as a kid in London five times, best gigs of my life. Also blessed to see Joe and the Mescaleros at his last ever London gig when Mick joined him on stage for the encore. Few weeks later I land in LA to meet my family only to be told by my son Joe Strummer has died. Talk about ruining a holiday, devastated. RIP Joe, badly missed man.

To this day this was the best show I’ve ever been to and I was 15 at the time. You had guys there that saw the Clash at long gone places like the Palladium and Bonds down to guys like me that were kids who weren’t around to see them. My dad was one of those old timers in the back while myself, my brother and my friend were up against the stage.

When punk happened and all us kids got into it, all my friends were into the Pistols and the Damned, but for me there was a band that topped the lot, The Clash. Strummer sang about change, about what was wrong with the shit we were in, not abstract stuff. The Clash weren't alone in that, but they did it better than anyone else. Here's to you Joe, when I found my cousin's Tommy Gun single it changed my life. Yeah you're to blame. :-)

Salut! "Without people you are nothing" Thanks to Joe Strummer, singer, guitarist, frontman of The Clash and above all free spirit. When I discovered music for myself and it started with punk rock and my first guitar in 1992 before the internet, it was inextricably linked with Joe and The Clash. He is an inspiration in his attitude, tolerance and feeling of injustice to this day. Thank you Joe without you I would probably not have discovered the freedom through music in such a way. Salut! It was 1999. Me & two good friends went. So f'n great! One of the best shows I've ever seen in my life. 7 SECONDS at Alvins in 2004 is on my top list too. RANCID & H2O in 2008, and H2O & BANE in 2009, are also on my top list! EARTH CRISIS & SNAPCASE & STRIFE in 1994 also. You can tell I mostly dig hardcore shows, but The CLASH are my fave band! I wouldn't have discovered hardcore if it wasn't for punk! As Roger from AGNOSTIC FRONT said, "never trust a hardcore kid who doesn't like punk rock!"

I saw The Clash during the Pearl Harbour Tour in early 1979 in Boston, #9 on the 40 greatest concerts in Boston history thephoenix.com/boston/music/25538-40-greatest-concerts-in-boston-history-9/ and many more times up through Bonds in NYC. I never saw the Mescaleros. During the Bonds marathon, I encountered the band (sans Joe) watching construction on a skyscraper near where I worked on my lunch break. I asked them if I could buy them a beer. "Sure mate" when I came back with a sixpack, they took their beers "Thanks, mate" and walked away - I did not ask If I could buy them a beer and hang out with them! :) I was in Times Square the day Joe Strummer died - he made the ticker on One Times Square, that's how I learned of his death.
