I head to Motech Performance to get a much needed Remus exhaust fitted to my BMW M2 Competition. Considering the unit is only an axle back system, it has made a world of difference to the sound and looks of my beloved M2 Competition.

Joe, this sounds class! The main thing for me is you don’t get the god awful loud pops and bangs on the overrun, just a nice subtle rumble when you lift off. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

This (more practical) modification video is fantastic - thanks Joe. I'm getting the M Performance exhaust for my new M5 Comp in a couple of weeks... the difference it makes to driving enjoyment should be amazing! I had the same for my old M4. Would be interested to get your views on the merits of Remus vs BMW M Performance

An excellent choice Joe! I have the same car and are thinking of making a similar mod down the track. It’s a pity you had to substantially dip into your pocket to rectify what should’ve been standard fitment on a vehicle of this calibre!!

I've had a decatted Fi exhaust fitted and it sounds like nothing else. Remus is the more sensible way, Fi is savagery to the max. And the best part is, with the valves closed, it is quieter than stock!

Hi Joe, Oh so sweet! Been thinking about buying a M2 Manual for a bit of daily, but mainly track work. But as you know, the exhaust and saggy balls has been putting me off. I think I have watched all your vid's on the M2 now, and this was the best! I really enjoyed that, and that maybe enough to tip me over into buying one, WITH Remus installed. While it sounds much improved. It's still a bandaid fix to a bigger problem - the engine just doesn't sound spine tingling in the way the old NA engines did (crackle 'n' pops aside). Mercedes did a good job with their turbo engine (ok, it has 2 extra cylinders). The sound/ noise is such a big part of the experience in these type of cars, that once you're use to the added performance the turbos bring, it feels like somethings missing. Maybe the new engine they have lined up for the next M2/3/4 will address this... here's hoping.

Mercedes doesn't sound any better with their 4 or 6 cylinder engines, dunno what your on about. Yes the NA engines sounded better, so did the Mercedes ones, you could say that about pretty much all manufacturers.

You need to listen to their V8 turbo (which is the engine referenced would be with an extra 2 cylinders), as that does sound good. It's in their C63 & E63 cars.

Finally, the ‘Comp finds its voice 👍🏾 my car is the same way as yours was at the start of the video. I have a 230i and I quite like the sound of the B48, it’s no straight six but it’s reminiscent of the cool 4 cyl BMW motors that came before it and much nicer than the N20 but I struggle to hear it, particularly past 70mph as I have run flats (which I plan to change). I think a dual resonator delete will solve the problem. If you’d ever like to do a comparison video between your car and a fast, manual 2 series that doesn’t have 6 cylinders then I let me know.

Brilliant! I’ve been waiting to hear what it sounds like before deciding whether to push the button on this for mine. My only worry is that they have to cut the original exhaust so putting it back to standard isn’t possible.

Great little car the M2 Comp but it Still doesn’t quite have the sound of the N55 with an m performance exhaust, how did they make the N55 and B58 sound so good compared to a M engine, baffles me.

Like the sound signature! Only Remus exhaust attached? OPF intact? Have you changed/ adjusted software? And most importantly: how is noise level? Big difference between normal exhaust and Remus? I want to fit this exhaust to my M2C too and do not like if sound is too loud. Quality > loudness! Thank you👍🏻

1 Ducati1199 need to be cut , you can always sleeve the old rear box back on 👍

I don't know why people are going crazy over the sound of this car. This engine will always sound crap regardless of the exhaust, it sounded crap when the M3/M4 was first released and hasn't improved. The M235i sounded far better and had a proper deep sporty tone compared to the tin can rattle of the M2 comp & M3/M4.

Hi Joe On the back of you I’ve pushed the boat out and bought a new M2C in sunset orange. I’ve already ordered lowering spring and spacers for a specialist in Aberdeen and really fancy the lower note of the Remus race exhaust. What’s the cost of that system if you don’t mind me asking? I have lived with a loud exhaust with my old RS Turbo MK1 and the motorway drone was too much, Janspeed sorted that out. You have a good balance with and without the valves open. Exhausts that are too loud don’t match the speed the car is doing, just show and they’ll make you deaf

I’m in the US without OPF and my M2 comp sounds louder and better stock than the UK spec, to the point that I don’t feel the urge to replace the exhaust. Given the size of these OPF boxes it makes sense there would be such a difference.

Sounds great! Are there any exhausts out there that replace the center resonator too? I assume it would be emissions friendly all the way up to the new regulator gear. I'm in the US, does anyone know if this new emissions regulation gear exists on the US spec M2C?

Does changing the stock exhaust into aftermarket mess up the engine management? Also does it invalidate the Manufactures Warranty ?

It does not as long is it cat back. Akropovic for example is installed by BMW here in Poland without any loss of factory warranty

I want a change of exhaust for my M2C. The BMW M Performance is quite pricey, based on my dealers quotation, but should keep the warranty good. I like Remus exhaust I've tried on motorcycles; they're a solid company. But out of interest, why did you go for Remus over M-Performance?

Don't understand why they don't make an under tray/plate because with this type of model you loose all the diffuser effect that the OEM box provides.

You maybe planned this for the future, but it's really time for you to visit BR Performance and finally get a full potential of that beautiful S55. That map is probably the best performance/price ratio upgrade you can have on your car. 90BHP for like under 1000 euros.

@@JoeAchilles1 I understand your concerns about engine warranty. Those guys however give 5 years warranty and are really top in Europe (IMHO better choice than any piggyback like from AC Schnitzer or RaceChip). Just check them out ;).
