I was glad when my parents divorced but felt devastated when my Dad got remarried. My mother didn't allow us to go to the wedding. When I saw him the next week I cried and asked him if he was still our Dad. He responded that if he thought it would upset me he would have never remarried. He said it seemed like no one cared that he was no longer with us. His words were comforting and he's been extra present to this day.

If you're a father and you disown your child because of the mother that is INSANE. We've gotten so desensitized to this and now we think it's normal. It's not. Heal yourself and connect with your child. Our community is so lost smh

Thank you for this comment. I been saying it all week, and on every platform I have been on... They have all disagreed with me and say and I quote: "There is nothing the father can do if the kid is all Team Mom"... That's so crazy to me. There is always something the father can do. It is his choice to act OR Not...

Respectfully, u must be a woman. I wanna start by saying it’s NEVER ok to disown your child, ever. But as a father myself, i totally get why SOME men have strained relationships with their kids bc the women can be bitter & spiteful, especially if you’re not together anymore, the child can grow to be pro mom based on her filling the kid head with negative thoughts of u, further straining the relationship, luckily i don’t have that in my situation, but i know plenty of GOOD men who do.

@@Tyweezy84 I have brothers and I have witnessed a bitter, spiteful, vindictive woman firsthand. I can empathize with the mind games and the manipulation that some good men have to deal with after a breakup. However, disowning your child should never be an option.

Have these uncomfortable conversations with those around you. Super happy you guys covered some tough talking points. I’m a 26 year old dad from Atlanta that has custody of my 5 year old son. I pulled him out of a very bad situation. He was left in cars. Transported without a car seat multiple times. Guns drawn in his vicinity. One instance when a gun was discharged in his direction in a car because of his mothers negligence. A father being awarded custody in the south is like winning the lottery. It’s extremely rare. Me and my sons mom are okay now. She sees him once or twice a month and pays child support. She’s flaked a few times. But she’s there. Growth is in those who seek it. Avid listener since the early SoundCloud Pete and Marisa days. First comment ever. Love.

That father convo was some real spit. I'm 36 and found out 3 years ago that I had living granddad in New Jersey. My dad never spoke about him so I assumed he was dead. Him & my father didn't have the best relationship and it made me understand why my dad was an inconsistent parent in my younger years.

I’m with Ish and Parks. If I raise a child for 10+ years, have a strong bond to this child, etc, there’s no way I’m letting him/her go without a fight. You can’t just come in after the years of work I’ve put in and just be like “well that’s my blood, so I’m taking them”. Now if you want to be involved in their life, and integrate yourself and your family, that’s fine. However, completely taking what is now emotionally and financially my child, yeahhh you’re not doing that. Joe and Ice sound selfish fr because they’re basically saying uprooting the kid completely is more important than making sure they have a stable life.

That father conversation should have its own podcast. With guests panelists and an audience. I didn’t meet my father until I was 15. Then I moved to DC from NC to live with him when I was 21. As a child who was abandoned, I agree wholeheartedly with Ish. My parents dropped me with my grandmother when they couldn’t care for me and then my mother uprooted me after I began to settle into a loving environment. At 15 I was removed from her care and I learned to only survive and not live. I often wonder what my life would have been if she would have left me in a loving environment instead of trying to save her own rep just to come get me.

This is one of the greatest pods I have watched, period. I can relate to ISH even though I am younger (27 years old)...for the longest time, my dad wasn't present in my life although he literally lived about an hour from my mother's house. Growing up, I would only see him when I was ill as he was the guy with the medical aid - I would see him once or twice a year. I grew up with a lot of resentment towards him as I saw from the five of my siblings, I was the "castaway" and it didn't help that I had my mother in my ear expressing how much of a "dog" he was...turning point was when I had to attend child support court proceedings as I was coming of age and that's where I found out he was actually sending money to my mother that I wasn't aware of and this led me to question what other positive things that were hidden from me to make him out as a bad guy. I reached out since that day and we've been good ever since...and oh, he is a cop too😂😂

Three babies under the weather over here.... this is just what I needed to end a long day. You guys look so cozy- makes me miss home. I miss the crispy fall air. Enjoy! I know someone since they were a baby. I'd been telling the mother to tell the child they were adopted since they were 3. I said to just say it plain. "You came out of a different belly, but you're my baby." She said 10. 10 came and went. Literally, the worst case scenario happened... someone else told (just being mean after ear-hustling a grown folks' conversation). Everyone was caught off guard, and by this time, they were already going through their "terrible teen" phase. Oh boy! Things hit the fan after that, and they said they felt like their life was one big lie that everyone was in on. It was horrible. Little kids are pliable. They go with what they know because that's all they know. Finding a gentle way to say 'he is a piece of his mom she left for him to love, and not being his bio-father doesn't mean he can't be his dad' would be a kind start. You don't want a custody issue either. I'd assume there was a reason she didn't tell him herself so personally, I'd hope she had a will, and granted guardianship to her husband. If not, get custody officially first and foremost, wait to tell the bio-dad until the child is ready to find him, and connect. There are too many unknowns to take chances. That was a doozy... great pod, gentlemen! Thank you!🤗

It should be illegal to strike your child because a child's brain cannot tell the difference between assault and punishment. It will release the same fight or flight chemicals and it WILL cause trauma
