Well the Finnish - Swedish hate/love relationship is really just like a inside joke. At least here in Finland people are used to joke about our Swedish cousins, but that's really all there is to it (especially in the times of ice hockey MM tournament). The hating and such is mainly focused to young people, because that's just the way young people are, everywhere. They just dont have the needed intelligence to take matters as humor, instead they get all aggressive about the most unnecessary subjects. When i was young, there were a lot of Finnish vs Swedish fights going on the border (Tornio - Haparanda), but i had nothing to do with those because i live in Sodankylä. And in my opinion, they just brought great shame upon themselves. So basically what i am trying to say is, that when you see/hear someone talking trash from Fins/Swedish people as a nation, you need to take it as a inside joke. If it's not a joke, then take it as you would with any teenager with attitude problems.

Surströmming is mostly used on the day of celebrating midsummer. During that day most swedes consume a shitload of alochol. If you first do that, then eat surströmming and stuff it with lots of other food and dont smell on it, it will go down.

Of course they are. To eat surströmming you have to prepare. You need potatoes, you need a special kind of bread, onion, vodka, good company but most importantly - you need to be out in the countryside. The last part is super, extremly important. Surströmming does smell a lot and the smell... catches on. So if you're planning to use the subway, meet people in a public area or something it's not a good idea to be around surströmming unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb or something. And as has been said in previous videos, we swedes like our space. We don't want to be bothered and we don't like to bother people. Smelling like rotten fish will give you unwanted attention in the bad way. And yes, surströmming is poisonous so if you're pregnant you can't eat it.

Oh the smell... I mean, it's really bad guys. I couldn't enjoy eating it or try to feel what it tastes like because of the goddamn smell. And it doesn't go away! Do not, under any circumstances open a can of surströmming indoors, you have to be outside. Also wear gloves 'cause you don't want to get the juice on your hands, the smell is hard to get rid of. Oh, the smell you guys...

Disturbing Swedes, that went outside to enjoy the rare sun with surströming, is probably the most rude thing you can do and I'm not surprised that people got pissed off. You don't know much of Sweden's history, do you?

SinuheFi Modern Sweden may be a limp wristed liberal cesspool these days, but historically Sweden was actually a warmongering military superpower in Europe for several centuries. In the 17th century Europe, the Swedes were feared so much that the phrase "The Swedes are coming!" were commonly used throughout the central and north-eastern Europe to scare children. A lot of Swedens military sucess can be atributed to King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, a great military leader who literally transformed the entire country of Sweden into a machine with the single purpose of waging war.

Dovenpeis "The Swedes are coming!" I have never read about that in the history books... :/ The Kingdom of Sweden was founded only around 1530 and before that there was only Gauthiod (The Land of the Goths) which was technically ruled from Hamburg. The Sveas lived together with the Goths in this no-name territory of Kvenland / Finland until the 13th century. It was the Goths (Birger Jarl was a Goth) who began to spread to the north and to the east (both Finnish -speaking areas) around 1249 / 1250 AD. SinuheFi No, unfortunately, you will not read much about European pride in history books these days, but at least no one will deny obvious historical facts such as the existence of the Swedish Empire and the existence of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, who literally transformed the entire country of Sweden into a military machine with the sole purpose of waging war.

Props to Swedes for putting up this crude humor. His humor was a bit annoying even by American standards.. I mean, who interrupts an intimate couple like that, to butt in. The whole threesome jokes thing with random strangers is getting old.
