I couldn't agree more, I used to chime all the Christmas carols on the carillon at church and I loved it, I felt so blessed, my ringing days are over but the memories will never fade. ⛪.

And yes, the whole assembly is basically a huge yet underrated type of musical instrument called carillon.

It's a chime, a carillon needs 23+ bells but they're essentially the same thing! Sorry to be that "um actually" guy on the internet, just one of the very few things I have niche knowledge about bc I used to play and I'm excited to share it!

I grew up in a small village on the Hudson River hearing church bells chime every hour, and mid day they'd play a longer song. Also the freight trains echoing through the valley. I miss the sounds of that little town.

I grew up surrounded by 5 churches. One played several hymns at noon and six o'clock daily. The rest timed their bells so they never interfered with each other. It was so lovely and peaceful.

I used to ring loads of Christmas carols and hymns on a carillon in Hartlepool at Stranton church, happy days, I would have played fight the good fight or abide with me and another one I would have loved to play at weddings what's the theme to Step toe and son if if the bride came in a horse and carriage but the victor would never let me do it, can't think why, happy days. 😂😂😂😂😂😂.

Crap! I forgot what this instrument is called and now it’s bugging me! One of the most impressive musical instruments in existence in my opinion right up there with those giant pipe organs. To be clear, it’s not just “bells”. Edit: Found it! It’s called a carillon!

well.. sort of.. carillons have smaller bells normally - thos are the "normal" big church bells...

@@Joeigraph are you sure it doesn’t qualify as a carillon? I would think it just has to be playable as an instrument from a central control like the video shows. I’m only guessing intuitively, so obviously I could be wrong.

The fact that they were able to cast these bells to hit those notes back then, while at the same time building cathedrals bigger and better than we are willing to do today? I mean the precision stone work, the art, the stained glass, everything. I'm jealous of the people who lived in a time when they devoted that much labor and attention to make sure that their church was perfect.
