In a way you might be right there, because most of the frontline people travellers usually interface with - shop assistants, waiters, security guards and so on - tend to be foreign migrant workers. Imagine if you were a malaysian. The whole world seems incredibly expensive. Ok, Turkey is cheap. But their cheap accomodation is not that modern. NE Asia is as bad as western Europe. Australia is slightly better. Incredibly hotels in Africa and India are more expensive than in KL. Even Bangkok and Jakarta are more expensive than KL. Unless it is street food.
