@@user-dy8fz1gv7u I thought 2022 team was a perfect storm. Olu Oluwatimu was a better center than Nugent- Nugent was a downgrade and it showed early in the season, but he stepped up and helped the team to a natty. Ronnie Bell, at the time, was a better receiver than Roman Wilson, but Wilson continued to develop and came up big in 2023. The 2023 team is the one that won it all. On paper, a lot of these guys look like downgrades from the 2023, but if they rise to the occasion, who knows? @@positroll7870in '16, '17, '18 Don Brown did mostly man blitz schemes. Against inferior opponents it was dominate but got touched by outside speed. I believe in '19 and '20 Don Brown felt the heat and changed his scheme to a lot more zone coverage while still blitzing a whole bunch. And that didn't work either. Michigan's best chance with a Don Brown defense was 2016 when JT was short.

Imo Warren and Tuttle will continue the current system and battle for Qb1+backup in fall. Meanwhile, Orji will practice lots of read option and will get 20-30% of snaps: - red zone / inside the 10 - 3rd and short - as change of pace Jaden Davis redshirts. Denegal: qb3, scout team unless he transfers.
@henrysprague6764
@henrysprague6764 4 ай бұрын
I like this take except I still think Orji has a legitimate shot at being the full-time starter if he continues to progress in the offseason. Especially if we can’t get more receivers/pass protection is suspect with a whole new offensive line, Orji’s special athleticism could be more valuable than a polished passer.
@positroll7870
@positroll7870 4 ай бұрын
@@henrysprague6764 The problem with that, as the last MGoBlog podcast discussed, is that we would have to change the system to optimize Orji (single wing, plenty of rpo's with live reads), and don't really have anyone to back him up in that unicorn role. If we could get s. o. like the Bama qb as no2, things would be different, but going with Orji as the full time starter this year is just too much of a gamble on him not getting injured despite very heavy use in the run game.

Nothing has changed, everyone is different, but not really. The individuals involved are linked through teams, philosophy, technique, and experience and a culture of smash-mouth football. The individuals have all been hanging around the same locker room for years now in some way or other. So, while the faces have changed, the individuals haven't much changed and that's the magic there. The kids are going to work their butts off for Moore. They love him. And one thing that last year did in that crucible of suspensions and missing coaches was teach the players they are the team and they carry the program. It's going to be glorious, win or lose.

I look for three QBs (Alex Orji, Davis Warren, and Jack Tuttle) to all play meaningful snaps against Texas. Yes, it’s a high profile game whose winner will have a leg up over the competition when the 12 teams are selected for the playoffs. However, I anticipate Coach Móore will choose to use the opportunity to make the Texas game as the final exam in the QB competition. It would not surprise me if even freshman Jadyn Davis gets in the game in the 4th quarter if either team gains a commanding lead.

Michigan has a brutal schedule in 2024, they will be challenged and battle hardened by the end of the season. Replacing 10 starters on offense is the glaring task. If they figure it out with game experience but they are possibly going to drop a game somewhere on that schedule , expect that but their defense absolutely needs to carry the team especially early in the season till the offense gets it's identity through games. Any players can look good in practice and drills but let's see how they do when it's live and real. If they make the playoffs that would be a major accomplishment. Just don't know with this team could be 9-4 or only 1 loss or undefeated it's really going to be interesting for us Michigan fans.

Also, Joel's talk on the culture AFTER the key leader leaves sounds like Dr John C. Maxwell, who has been teaching leadership since 1976. Maxwell has written dozens of books on leadership. He runs the Injoy organization.

no matter what, Michigan is going to have a crash back down to reality. that feels inevitable. Doesn't help either that Michigan State hired a good coach and Ohio State reloaded (plus, The Game is in Columbus) the difference is, will Michigan still be able to rebound and still take care of business? We shall see.

Jack Tuttle could be in the mix as well. Out of high school, he was ranked higher than Joe Milton, Sam Hartman, Michael Penix, Cam Rising, Will Levis, Brock Purdy, Zach Wilson. Warren was impressive during the spring game but in a real game last year wasn’t that great. Maybe they give Orji, Warren and Tuttle all a chance against Fresno State but will have to have a guy for the Texas game. Their first 5-6 games are at home.

Joel, I like listening to you BUT..... could you amp down the hype and shilling a little? It's a DRAFT, not a season. It's spring games that don't matter. It's NOT a 'golden age,' in college. It's a deterioration of traditions, of rivalries and probably of the game itself. Those of us who once loved our local university and their underdog chances NOW just realize that we were un-consulted, and unimportant. Our loyalty to schools and teams who have no loyalty of any kind to US was a last straw for many of us.

But Joel, all of those players and many of those coaches exhibiting that culture are all gone. Add to this the fact that the schedule is much more difficult and there is no way they can reduplicate that success. But even more important is no JJ McCarthy and nothing remotely close(and Jack Tuttle is not HIM). All good opponents will do is stack the box and cover the WRs one -on -one. I doubt UM is better than 8-4 or 9-3 at best. This is not good enough to make the playoffs.

I will consider 2024 a huge success if Michigan beats Ohio State or if Michigan makes it into the expanded playoffs. Whoever wins the conference championship automatically gets into the expanded playoff so I did not include it separately.

It's not hard to argue at all, Joel. They broke rules. They cheated. They had an unfair advantage. Any team could win if they knew the next play coming. Give me a break. Harbaugh bails as fast as anyone could. What's that tell you, Joel?

without looking at the comments, let me guess: most of the comments are from duh osu fans still waiting for the 'hammer' to fall... meanwhile marquise davis has two crystal balls suggesting a michigan commit suggesting that duh osu fans insisting that alford could no longer recruit were merely expressing denial - which is a known stage of grief.

Ah don't worry. Once Michigan loses to Texas very early on...the burden of defending the national championship will be lifted and we can just enjoy a typical Michigan season, probably with at least one other loss (to the school down South...)

Seriously. You lost 44 seniors and have an untested coaching staff with possibly a walk on QB starting. If you don’t lose 5 games and don’t get slaughtered by OSU it would be some sort of Devine intervention or the biggest miracle recorded in the 21st century period. Either way it’s over for 2024. Stop the crazy talk.
