A quick breakdown of the Lou Reed classic "Walk on the wild side"
Chords are: C - F - D. This is good practice for your right hand.
Enjoy..

Omg! Nice! I like how he plays the song and shows us the chords in the intro before breaking it down! Many other peeps just go straight into and sometimes never even bother to show us what the song would sound like. Thanks so much . Sweet and simple

Firstly,thanks for a great lesson, enjoyed your clear and patient explanation. One thing tho, any chance you could show how you actually incorporate the luck either the rest of the lesson? I’m probably thick but would like to have seen you play it all through once over. Not criticizing it’s really good to watch and learn but would like to see you play it one time maybe.

Hi. I struggle with the Rhythm. But it's just practice. Can I ask you about your accent. Are you from Liverpool if so which part?
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Danyella, thanks for getting in touch. Yep with the rhythm, just concentrate on right hand , it does take time. Just make sure wrist is not tight, just try and make it real loose. Another thing to improve rhythm is play along with metronome, I know it can be boring, but can do wonders for improving things. Yeh I'm from Liverpool, have to tone down my accent, so people can understand me, but it's fading anyway as I left there 30 years ago. I lived in lots of places in Liverpool, Wavertree, Edge Hill, Dovecote.

Depends on which version. The album version here is correct with D major. Live the song was often played diatonically with the F as the third of D and not F#. On lots of live recordings you can hear a Dm.
@scottross9023

@@NikkiStyxx1 I thought I'd check that out so I listened to 8 different live versions. Live, he plays it in D instead of C (album) and every time you can see him playin' that E major. Maybe he tunes his G string down 1/2 step. LOL! Your ears are definitely better than mine.
@NikkiStyxx1
@NikkiStyxx1 4 жыл бұрын
@@scottross9023 Live he played it in C in the 70s and sometime around the early 80s he started playing it in D. I wonder why 🤔 Officially, D major is indeed correct. D minor, I agree is wrong. This is a nice I-II-IV-II a la "Eight Days a Week'.
@scottross9023

@@NikkiStyxx1 I will bet he started playing it in D so they could tune the bass down a step. Just guess.

+Jeremy Breaux Jeremy, thanks for your comment I don't often go into lots of detail about right hand. I do this intentionally so people can make it their own and take some time to develop their own style. Otherwise the student has very little to do and as a result doesn't develop, in any meaningful way. It is my aim to help people develop as musicians rather than it being a kind of robotic process.

+JoesGuitar the reason I say that is because it's a unique strumming set up. For some reason strumming is giving me a lot of problems, so hearing "figure it out" for a not basic strumming pattern is really frustrating. It's the one thing keeping me from being able to use this video... Basically meaning I probably won't look into this song again for a long time, if ever.
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons
@JoeMurphysGuitarlessons 8 жыл бұрын
+Jeremy Breaux Hey Jeremy, thanks for getting back. You mentioned that strumming is giving you a problems. My point is that this could be down to, not developing your hearing skills enough and relying more on visuals. I'm guessing that, at some point, you would like to be able to figure things out by ear ? Obviously visuals can really speed up learning, but if that's all we did we would find it much harder to hear things and perhaps more importantly come up with our own ideas. I think if you want to play something enough, you generally don't give up until you've learnt it and if you give up, you either don't want it enough, or its way too difficult By the way, just so I'm clear here, are you saying you can't hear the pattern as in down down up up etc ? If not, maybe tell me what your hearing.
@OW_Archive
@OW_Archive 8 жыл бұрын
+JoesGuitar lessons I can't hear the pattern mainly because of the muting. Regular strumming is easy enough to figure out, but when the muting isn't on a normal set up then it complicates things for newbies. There are a lot of songs out there to try and learn. I'm very interested in learning the song, it's a great song and fun for everyone.... but I have about 50 other songs on my "songs to learn" list. Why make it harder for someone to learn from your videos?

+Mike Speed ok Mike just checked that out as I haven't looked at it for a while. I am actually strumming between G & G6, but I understand how you might miss it. Let me explain whilst I might be fretting an open G as long as I don't strum high G ( that's the thinnest string 3rd fret if I'm playing open G chord ) and I concentrate on playing top 5 strings I'm playing G6. It's also worth mentioning that it can be very difficult to find accurate guitar transcriptions of songs. I have had many books over the years that Have been inaccurate, not to mention all the stuff on the Internet that can be way off the mark, of course there are many good transcriptions out there, but unless you have the ears to know what is right and wrong it can be very difficult to hear.

It’s the Wavertree, Edge Hill, bit I picked up on. Was there in my youth in bands around Aintree. Always played lead guitar. Now am older & a gap of over 30 years the acoustic is more appealing. But it is proving difficult to develop a rhythm. A Metronome is a good idea.I am back on the Wirral these days. Going over to Liverpool tomorrow to see www.britishmusicexperience.com/Looks amazing. Are you still in Liverpool?
