sure...government came from the mob, but they made it transparent. The original fire brigade in NYC was to come to your business and if you paid, they didn't light it on fire. Eventually the value of a legal fire department became obvious. Government legalizes everything out of the mobs hand for a reason...the fact that you said it without irony shows 403 people and everyone below doesn't even understand why most these things are government run. They would legalize cocaine and other drugs (which would be smart) theres just too much blowback on it...whereas booze (ten times more dangerous than marijuana) is A-OK because its impossible to restrict. Even the restriction of cocaine doesnt work, and its mostly a make-work project for the feds and police. Most countries legalize it knowing: fewer addicts, more profit from the taxes.

The only difference is the mob/unions "shake down" the builder before construction ever starts with added licensing/contractor/concrete/brick mason "fees" ETC. With EVERY "new" building/renovation project in NY (and MANY other cities), rest assured the mob is seeing something.

For whatever his minimal amount of public school system education is, this man just gave an economics lesson, regarding how Cosa Nostra would make a lot of the money they made, & also explained the bid-rigging that goes on, too, & he does it just about as well as any person could do, 8th grade education or Harvard education. My grandfather was a very powerful vice-President of a very powerful labor union, in his day the Steeamfitters Local #318, Cape Girardeau, MO... Now known as the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #562, St. Louis. And I was around several 'connected' guys & even a few actual wiseguys, 'made' guys in the Giordano Crime Family, & Joey Diaz got it, spot on! At one point, they used to literally factor in the mob tax as "assumption of damaged materials," right there in the damned contract! The avg 'John Q. Public' has no idea the grip Cosa Nostra had on the United States! J. Edgar Hoover, the original FBI Director, denied the existence of an Italian Mob for ages! (Probably because he frequented many mob hotspots like The Copacabana or The Stork Room w/his 'husband,' & #2 @ The FBI, Clyde Tolson) They even worked w/The CIA to attempt to assassinate Fidel Castro, & then, successfully, JFK! The Italian Mob, Cosa Nostra, had their hands in EVERYTHING!

@@matthewrider5906 pubblic domain knowledge at this point. Hoover denied the mafia for other reasons namely that his FBI fratboys couldnt do shit about them. The myth that he was somehow coerced by them is pure fiction. Then there's political reasons. Many politicians got paid off by the mob. Back then I dont think there were laws that dealt with criminal conspiracy of that caliber. So the FBI couldn't do squat. Ffs the Federal Government nailed Al Capone for tax evasion or some nonsense like that.

I've lived in neighborhoods in NJ where as much as 50% of the population is Italian. None of these people sound like the stereotypical Sopranos shit. The media loves to play up the 'guinea wop' Italian stereotype because it's not looked down upon like other stereotypes for some reason. Then again, maybe it's different in deep pockets of NY - but in NJ they're just normal white folks.

Carting companies, scrap yards, transfer stations.. etc. the days of intimidation and price fixing are done. NYC has task forces like the “BIC” that have been created specifically to make sure to it. The reason the price of cement cost so much more then other states is because of the price of doing business in nyc. The land, the insurances, the wages, the regulations.. I can go on and on. The guy is just talking out of his fat ass. The days when the italian mob ruled NY and the East Coast are long gone. John Gotti was the last big "godfather",whe the FBI took him and his organisation down,in the early 1990´s,the italian mob never recovered. Other organised crime outfits moved in,like the russians, who became big in the 90´s after the Sovjet Union collapsed, other Eastern European organisation too, like Albanian,Armenian,Serbian mafia. And in the last 15 years, there are a shitload of Hispanic gangs on the rise, who are fractured, similar to what happened with the mexican cartels. All kinds of outfits,Puerto Rican,Mexican, the infamous M-13 that Trump mentioned in a press conference(they´re from El Salvador, very violent scumbags) And of course you have your various chinese Triads,Yakuza and Caribbean outfits like Haitian and Jamaican gangs. The italians are still there, but it´s not like back in the day, when they controlled almost everything, their power has been dimished significantly.

I am an estimator/sales guy in the construction industry, and what Joey is saying here about bid rigging in NYC is spot on. What he fails to mention is how many contracts get awarded simply based on the race, gender, and even sexual orientation of the owner of the company. My boss is an ivy league educated millionaire with an IQ in the 130s, and he is awarded contracts because of the color of his skin, under the pretense that he is a disadvantaged minority. Disadvantaged my ass. He is smarter than 95% of the population, and is well within the top 1%. He drops $100k annually in tuition for private elementary schools for his 2 kids. I grew up in the 70s and 80s in an area not far from where some of the main people portrayed in Casino came up. When it’s close to you, you don’t have to be in it to be aware of it. You end up in school with, having friends, or maybe even dating somebody’s relative. An attempted hit of a well known person took place within blocks of my home when I was about 13. I remember for a few years around that time, there were reoccurring stories of bodies being discovered and cars being shot up or blown up on the local news. My neighbor who was very friendly to me and my family as a kid moved out one night without telling anyone. I could go on, but my point is that there’s a good chance that Joey is not just making stuff up.

As a life long Nee Yorker, Joey is 100% correct their are constant construction projects going on in NYC and NJ The BQE (Brooklyn Queen Expressway). 5 miles of the BQE have been under construction for 30 years (Daily News Report). The Pulaski Skyway in Jersey was sold to the commuters as a 2 year project, took 6 years and was a 500 Million over budget. The worst part was it was re done and was not expanded (still 2 lanes in each direction). The World Trade Center, 10 years to complete and 2 Billion over budget the building stands today with only 20% occupancy. Not only are the bids controlled but they keep on asking for extensions. “We couldn’t get it done in the promised time, we need an extension” of course at more cost.

italiaskate25 the Quebec government is the most corrupt. I’m from Quebec but don’t live there anymore cause if you wanna do construction work on the Quebec side you have ccq ccst and the list goes on and on. So for every 20$ you make 19$ goes to the mob government.
