7:21 “The world is cruel but it is also very beautiful” has always been the central theme of aot, and the ending hones in on this concept is bittersweet

I have never cried this much from any song ever. This song is a f---ing brutal masterpiece. I have read the manga and managed to power through the whole episode without feeling any special emotions. (I am watching with my dad). When this song hit you with "under the tree", I just broke down... this song is not fair

I'm so happy for this reaction, it's true that this song is less powerful than the rumbling but I still think it conveys the emotion of mikasa. But your somg kill for you is better ( for me ) to explain their relation and mikasa

Just think of this, the Final Theme has to be Armins Theme if we are going do one for all 3 of them. Lets hope Sims goes full Metal on it!!!!!!!!! Now im saying this loving the hell out of Under the Tree, its like right under Opening 1 or Sasaegyo Opening. While The Rumbling is numbah 1!

I think the main reason Under The Tree comes off as what you described is due to the fact of it being from Mikasa's point of view. Her perspective of events unfolding in the story is a lot more emotional and light compared to The Rumbing, Eren's point of view.

If this was reflecting on Mikasa's mindset - then it is a yes because it is sobering, yet full of lament with a sense of regret. (It also pretty much fit the ending of the manga.)

I think the problem with this song is that it's by SIM, we had great expectations when we heard there's a new song by SIM, and wanted something like Rumbling.. It is still a cool song, if only it didn't end after "I'll protect you".. Mikasa is not an innocent sweetheart after all, I'm sure she's many Yeagarists' nightmare, so she deserved a crazier, more hyped song too

Sim always has this "problem" in using these weird flow breaking verses like "if i loose it all" or here "why oh why". its much too long and too often, while the good part of the song gets pushed back

bro Joey u fkn stole the words out of my mouth with the first impressions.. melody was great , the rock elements reminded of linkin park .. which was good.. lyrics were too shallow imo and i was expecting it to hit a bit harder considering the emphasis on Mikasa... on listening to it few more times i appreciate the rock elements the most but yeah overall underwhelming.
