Seriously, I can't think of another active player that takes you into the mindset of pro ball the way Votto does. He's so intelligent and clear on the intricacy of the game. After he's done, I hope he moves into managing. Baseball needs him even after he's done playing.

@@gospelslang9027 Did you notice his awareness of pitch counts, where a player is going to hit a ball, fielding position? Not hard, I agree. Then did you notice he had absolutely zero pauses while he was providing thoughtful answers that didn't trail off into incoherence? He's going through problem solving scenarios, while recollecting 14 year old events and even smoothly tying in conversation with a player on the field. I'd love to see a free safety have the same fluidity in conversation about their childhood and a game from over a decade ago right before a running play when literally ever other player on the field is motionless. Guarantee it's not nearly as fluid as what you just saw, and it's not nearly as complex of a situation than what Votto was just in.

Imagine these scenes during the first few months of baseball, instead of giant empty stadiums. If teams dedicated a few games out of the 160 , to play in small city/towns...Americans might fall in love with the sport again...And probably sell more tickets.

They have two end of season spring training games in Las Vegas and it is absolutely packed. They should open at their respective parks and then after two series, go play in a few different venues.

Only 4 players in Major League history have led the league in On Base Percentage more times than Votto: Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Rogers Hornsby, and Barry Bonds. 4 absolute legends. And considering Bonds' steroid use, you could argue that only 3 have done it more than Votto without cheating. Add in an MVP with 3 seasons finishing Top-3 in MVP voting, a Golden Glove, 6 all star appearances, almost 350 homers, and ALMOST a .300 lifetime batting average in a damn tough era to do that (and it was over .300 until his late 30's). All those things combined, I really think Votto has earned his way into the Hall Of Fame. I think if he had played his whole career as a Yankee or a Dodger, this wouldn't be disputed. He's had a quietly elite career.

If Votto isn't a HOF'er, no one is. I didn't realize that was even disputed... He may not be a "1st Ballot" (yet) (and to the people that say "Either you're a HOF'er or you're not" there def must be tiers to this. How long you wait should be a big part of it..) But Votto will be inducted eventually..

Reds have been a major rival of our city, but I have the utmost respect and admiration for Votto as a player and a leader of an organization. Sad day when Pujols, Miggy, and Votto step away from the game. Those are the guys I grew up watching to love the game.

I like the reasoning, but check out Paul Konerko's numbers, and he didn't even get the votes to stay on the ballot. Career .279 439 Home runs to Votto's 342, Konerko 1412 RBI to Votto's 1106. WS ring, ALCS MVP, 6 time all star. I think if Konerko and Big Papi played on the opposite teams, Konerko would be in. It's really tough to say if your guy isn't a Yankee or Dodger, or Red Sox.

I’m fairly new to the Joey Votto appreciation camp, but the guy impresses me more and more all the time. He exudes cool without being arrogant. He’s great with kids and fans. And if ever there was a baseball player who SHOULD DEFINITELY be in the announcer’s booth after an impressive career, it’s this guy!!

Years ago, I paid money to go see him play and only him since the Reds rarely come to the city where I live. He did not disappoint. Every at-bat he fought hard. His team was 5-20 at the time. But Votto plays every game and every at-bat like it is Game 7 of the World Series.

Cubs fan here....I miss when Rizzo would get to first base and laugh and joke around with his "paisan" (I think that's how they say it in Italian...lol) Votto. Votto didn't have the best reputation for a while (I think people took his seriousness and competitive focus the wrong way), but he's come a long way and started allowing himself to just have some fun out on the field. Even as a Cubs fan, I'm a big fan of his. P.S. Get Votto a broadcasting job as soon as he retires. With his baseball knowledge and baseball greatness, it would be the best hire ever. Guy is seriously a natural!

Cubs vs Reds in Dyersville IA today!!! Wow epic my Cubs team got to play there this year. I was in Dyersville a few weeks ago helping a priest friend move into his new parish(the basilica). We drove right by the field. Had over 100 people help move. I also love Joey Votto…cool he was mic’d up during this game. I love that there’s corn around the field. Gotta try some fresh sweet corn out here peeps. And we have cities here. Not all farms. Also, northeast Iowa is incredibly beautiful. Hills and valleys. Rivers and cliffs. I live in Cedar Rapids. Good place to live. Not too busy, not at all rural, good people, low crime, low costs…far inland from war, seasons. We used to have one of the highest ranked spots on the best place to live list
