1:25 That "famous painting" is called The Creation of Adam done by Michelangelo and (I think...) it being recreated here is meant to show the relationship between man and God, specifically how Adam the first human was alowed by God to keep his forbidden knowledge after he sinned (again I think, been a long time since I took Art History in college!), and it in a way mirror's Light's and Ryuk's relationship. Or it could just be religious symbolisim for the sake of religious symbolisim, Japan has a habit of doing that in their media...

You need to remember that openings and endings in anime have to be 1:30 long. They're all 1:30 reditions of songs that are 3, 4, 5 minutes long, so some music choices are only there because they have to shorten it.

Half time is a pretty standard things in music compositions, it creates dynamism and emphasizes parts of the song and creates a different feel, any great drummer would put half time or any variant of the drumming in their arrangement to make the song interesting. Death Note's OP sung by Naitomea (Nightmare) Visual Kei Band.. I'm a huge fan of them cause their music isn't just one genre of rock.. In their album, they have incorporated other styles of music but kept it rocking.. Also the different change of pace and rhythm in between one song makes it 'slow down' like half time and then bring it back to speed, making listeners hyped up for the next verse..
