During the Night Stalker case, Angus Young and Brian Johnson appeared on Entertainment Tonight to address the allegations that their song "Night Prowler," was Richard Ramirez' inspiration for his crime spree.

It's not the first time AC/DC or their song was blamed for inspiring a murder. Just befiore the world was made aware of Richard Ramirez/the Night Stalker; NY in June 1984 the case of Ricky Kasso. When he was arrested he had on a AC/DC shirt.

Indeed. My parents (step dad esp) were horrified when I got into Kiss when I was a seven year-old kid in the late 70s. Fortunately, I’d outgrown them by the time I was 12, and developed a more sophisticated taste for Quiet Riot and Krokus lmao. They just LOVED the cover of Metal Health.

I remember showing my mom this actual clip ( recorded on VHS at the time ). My mother was an ardent PMRC supporter. And, as a 16 year old kid who loved AC/DC, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Cheap Trick ( yep, even them with " Gonna Raise Hell " ) etc., it was EXTREMELY frustrating to see adults accuse my favorite bands of things that had NOTHING to do with the controversies being delivered to them by crazy Christian fundamentalists ( some of which were my own neighbors ). Ironically, some of those very crazy people ( including my mother ) are NOW fans of the music they chastised!!

Suicide solution is about Bon Scott....the guy who wrote Night Prowler. Its about his death due to alcohol overdose in London in 1980. Bon and Ozzy were good mates.

Rap wasn't a thing during the mid-80s, during the 'Satanic Panic'. Bands like AC/DC, KISS, Iron Maiden and Ozzy Osborne were squre in the bullseye of evangelical nut jobs who believed the devil inspired heavy metal/hard rock, which they claimed motivated kids to commit suicide. It was a crazy time... Dana Carvey's SNL character "Church Lady" made fun of all this perfectly.

I was 13 years old and had a cassette tape of the new AC/DC album. It was a full moon and got the urge to sneak out of the house at midnight to visit a friend. Duct taped a big-ass cassette player to my bmx bike with a fresh set of D batteries. Off I went into the night with the wind in my hair, music blasting, dogs barking and neighborhood house lights turning on. For the next 3-4 hours felt like I was on top of the world. 🌑 🕛🚴‍♂🤘

My mum used to be very close with the Young Brothers back in the late 80s -90s when she would tour with them, she would babysit their kids, have dinners with them and would wash their clothes etc. When I heard about this whole claim I talked to her about it, she said that is was so ridiculous because they were nothing like what they were portrayed to be like, they did worship satan or anything like that, and they were just regular guys, and the whole connection to the night stalker they told her was absolutely ridiculous and so stretched to have some kind of influence to Ramirez’s actions.

Night Prowler gets NO air time because of that POS Loser,I really like the beat to most music before really listening to the words and this song was no exception.It will be my FAV AC/DC song always.All the best bands have their music unnecessarily dissected to try to prove they have alternate meaning.1970's definitely won when it came to The Best Rock N Roll Bands.

Big deal if the song might have been written about Richard Ramirez. The song Killer on the Loose by Thin Lizzy was written around the legend of Jack the Ripper. Mr. Crowley by Ozzy Osbourne was written around the legend of Aleister Crowley (an occultist), etc. It's just music, for pities sake.

We were as loud and disrespectful as kids today there were tons of homeless people and if you worked a minimum wage job you were as broke as kids today. I am a lifelong, diehard fan of AC/DC. That said, I think the lyrics of 'Night Prowler' sound more like a song about Michael Myers from the movie "Halloween" than a song about a guy who steals women's panties (or a horny teenager sneaking into his girlfriend's bedroom, as the band has also claimed). "And you won't feel the steel til it's hangin' out your back" "I'm the Night Prowler Just outside your door Night Prowler - creeping 'cross the floor Night Prowler - make a mess of you Night Prowler - and there's nothin',nothin' you can do!"

I remember hearing the song by Led Zepp " In My Time of Dyin " during my drug years and made me think about death and Jesus. Then a hippy friend that dug Jesus told me more of Jesus love and forgiveness and how I could also know Jesus love. So in 1981 I cried out to Jesus and wow man He came into my life and I had and have so much joy and peace and now know that through Jesus when I die I will be with Him in Heaven. "Anti-Christ Devil's Child" What the actual F? The whole devil worship scare craze in the 80's was just bizarre. Too many bible beaters realizing that young people just didn't find the traditions compelling. In their eyes if you weren't a Christian you might as well worship the devil. Night Prowler is my favorite song on the album I think, and that's saying a lot because that album is so good. The blues guitar is just so awesome in that song. "And you don't feel the steel 'til it's hanging out your back!" Shazbot, nanu nanu.

No it's not about killing, but its easy to see where alot of people, (my self included at one point) can misinterpret the lyrics to be more evil then they actually are. The songs actually about sneaking out to see your girlfriend, the whole first verse of the song is basically what going on through the person's head as they are trying to get to their girlfriends house. Is wasn't about wanting to hurt someone it was more about being paranoid that someone was going to hurt / kill you.

I agree. I feel that they felt the need to downplay it tbh. And it's basically their take in The Rolling Stones Midnight Rambler - a character who is definitely some type of spree killer/rapist in what is a blue murder ballad from the murderers perspective. Night Prowler is much the same. I wish they could have just stuck true and said yes it is a murder ballad, but that has no bearing on what a psycho like Ramirez does because there are many many murder ballads and other media, and it's a reflection of darkness in society bot a cause if it.
