Johann Rosenmüller studied at the theological faculty of the University of Leipzig around 1640. He traveled to Italy in 1645/1646. [From 1651 he was organist of the St. Nicholas Church in Leipzig ... In 1655 he was imprisoned and relieved of all his offices "for an unnatural offence" ... Before a more detailed investigation could be carried out, Rosenmüller fled to Italy. ... Here he built a new existence for himself as a trombonist at St. Mark's Basilica and also as a composer. Soon he called himself Giovanni Rosenmiller. During his 24-year stay in the lagoon city, he became a respected man. ... Rosenmüller returned to Germany as court kapellmeister to Duke Anton Ulrich of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel. He died two years later in Wolfenbüttel. ... I
