@@grac3om kidnapping? I doubt that. Women may have been generally seen as second class citizens but they were still valued and kidnapping one wouldn't be normal. I think the people on the streets probably have a general understanding that Johanna is held practically held hostage, and he's talking about rescuing her.

This doesn't make sense lol. No one said Tim Burton wrote it or something. It's one of his directoral masterpieces. Its about how the movie was made ffs. It is pretty much the musical but truncated for film Sweeney Todd itself is an adaptation of a bunch of penny dreadful stories so the folks who wrote it didn't come up with the demon barber of fleet street or the human meat pie plot points

I love this rendition of the musical. I remember going to see it in theaters & the person who went with me told me they knew what Sweeney Todd was about, but then was shocked when they started singing about feeding people human meat pies lmao I see lots of comments here about vecna - funny story - I associate this actor with Antony. Watching stranger things, I was trying to figure out where I knew the actor from. He was so good at being vecna that not enough of Antony crossed my mind and my friend finally had to tell me who he was 😂

At first when I heard this song, I was so confused because of course, you could say this is a very romantic song, but also the lyrics are..kinda creepy? Like "I'll steal you" and especially after he kicked out and sings this part again, you can clearly see, in his expression, don't know what he is actually thinking. Is that a face of a criminal or determined young man? And years later, listening to this again, realize "Oh, this is just how this musical is, every songs are ominous"

I think it meant while he saw her for the first time, he thought she was too good to be true. Perhaps he was dreaming when he saw her. So he is happy that the girl he just saw is real.
