The largest city in South Africa and the provincial capital of Gauteng, Johannesburg, had its beginnings as a gold-mining community in the 19th century. Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu previously lived in the vast Soweto township. The Mandela House museum now stands where Mandela once lived. The gloomy Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill, a former prison complex, are two other Soweto museums that chronicle the fight to eliminate segregation.

They only show the positive side of Johannesburg. I used to live there, it is very dangerous to live in Jo'burg! Too much crime!

@@ElginGottowik The goal of this video seemed to be to show some parts of the Johannesburg area not to be a documentary on the social ills of the nation. Did you experience this crime or did you just hear about it? Regardless, the video was pleasant to watch and shows that the area has many nice places.

I remember visiting in 2010 for the world cup, we also stayed at Durban, Pretoria and Rustenburg, the South Africans were very welcoming and friendly everywhere we went. Be proud South Africans black and white's together you have a beautiful country, take care of it and love it.

I'm from Brazil and I'll be travelling around SA for a month starting in Johanesburg. So damn excited! This reminds a lot of my city São Paulo: cosmopolitan, chaotic, diverse, loud, fun. Pretty sure is gonna be one of my top 5 cities ever!
