It must have been quite an honor to know John Candy. A talented and caring person. Still miss him and his comedy to this day.

Steve Martin helped out John's family after he died. They were tight.

I don't think they needed anything from Martin.

SCTV truly was a gem. The real early ones were low budget and lower production, but that meant that the comedy truly had to come from the performer and not the supporting backgrounds and backdrops. And on SCTV he was already a comic giant in every sense. If you never saw SCTV give it a visit. You'll find his greatest work there.

Costas looked like he was about 15 here. I did a double take when i heard his voice. He mentioned they were celebrating the first year anniversary there in 1989, around the time Seinfeld launched too. But John 🍭 was a stud. He later became a passionate owner of the CFL Toronto Argonauts I believe, and was like a kid in a.... Wait for it... Candy store. He had greatest fake laugh in the history of show business.. or maybe the world. Never gets old. 11:10

I normally like Bob Costas interviews but he sounds just like The Chris Farley Show here, "Remember when....That was awesome". John seems like he's slightly tired of getting asked the same questions about scenes. Especially the mud wrestling scene from Stripes where he was humiliated while shooting that scene. John, respectful as always, goes along with it with grace.

The first time you see John Candy as a grown up in Splash and he's still dropping change to look up girls' skirts is the probably my first memory of him.

I just found out that John Candy is from the same town Jim Carrey’s from, a small town called Newmarket in Ontario Canada… That must be one funny town.
