THIS SHOW WAS GARBAGE, HOW THE HELL IS A 5/5, THIS IS CRAZY DUDE.

I was there live for this one. Maybe it’s the bias of seeing it live but everything worked for me. MITB realistically hasn’t been treated all that special in years, so using it this time to advance and add heat to an existing story whilst also planting seeds for another was a great idea. All the matches were good. John Cena’s announcement was emotional. Solo pinning Cody was the right call (disagree if you want, I don’t care, I’m right) because if you want to build a new mega heel and have him look like a legit threat, that’s how you do it. You could say “well it’s because Tanga Loa got involved” which I mean, it’s a bloodline match lol. And it didn’t make any other members of the bloodline look stupid or weak. Solo looked really good in the win. Plus the show made Jacob Fatu and Bronn Breaker look like the absolute stars they are. But there were quite a number of botches so I realistically can’t give it a 5. But I will still give it 4.5/5

The failed cash in was a horrible idea from a booking perspective. It wastes Money in the Bank for an entire year. It wastes the opportunity for Drew to be even more of a hypocrite by cashing in on Punk later on. It also keeps making Damien as more of a paper champion or an "extra" in the Drew vs Punk story, and not as a true world champion. Punk should've cost him the opportunity to cash in, not cash in itself. Drew should've come in on RAW and say he hates the concept of MITB even more and get rid of the briefcase, until Punk comes back and becomes champion, just for Drew to waltz in with thr briefcase in hand, cash in, and bring it full circle.

You gave Forbidden Door a 4/5 and this mid ass show a 5/5!? Come on Luke this was a mid show, Smackdown 2 weeks ago was way better than this show, Dynamite this week was better than this show, almost every WWE PLE this year was better than this show. None of which garnered 5/5

I am USUALLY close with your reviews on the "5 out of 5" ratings but this one . Was barely a 3 out of 5 show to me. I have reasons for this as well. The match times were part of it like you mentioned near the end. They were sprint matches on a show made to give the talent time to perform properly to avoid injuries and entertain but instead we got a rushed spot filled show that looked sloppy at best for the performers half the time and the other half looked dangerously done moves. It was almost too obvious that the women did not practice much on the ladder spots with them hitting spots that looked like they hurt themselves more than their intended targets in the move yet they who did it bounced up as if they did not just smash their face or butt into an aluminum rung or side of the ladder. Zoey, Chelsea, Lyra and Iyo off the top of my head all gave bumps that looked brutal to themselves. All but Iyo went on like they did nothing to themselves. Iyo will end up a meme.. not just a meme.. but THE meme of the entire PPV.. in my opinion that is.. when she was holding the bottom of her spine (her ass ok?) from dropping Zoey in that piledriver style move from standing ladder onto the flat ladder in the rung and ropes. The cash in and Punk interference ruined the event for now the mystery of a cash in on any championship is gone for another year. It would have worked better if Punk took out Drew before he won the MITB and allowed a superstar to still have the money in the bank contract. The thought of Gable winning to be thwarted every time he tried to cash in by the Wyatt Sicks just by their presence popping up before he hands the case to the ref.. so he runs away through the crowd until finally he either gets caught by them or he challenges Bo/Uncle Howdy to a match where they leave him alone to cash in if Chad wins or the Wyatt Sicks takes Chad "to end the madness" if Uncle Howdy was to win. That gives them the option to use the briefcase or to absorb Chad into the collective or eliminate Chad from TV for a few months or so coming back as a trapped lackey of theirs.. freed by the compassion of Maxine, Tazawa then finally a forgiving Otis.. they save him and maul him themselves allowing for the Creeds and Ivy to save Chad and start their stable up . I understand the Punk interference but it ruined one of my favorite PPVs and storyline guessing moments for the next quarter or two on the cash in. The rest of the PLE was predictable (well so was the Punk interference as soon as Drew cashed in) and that is a downer most of the time where no surprises makes for an ok PLE.. A max rating of 4 of 5 on a predictable one with good matches but this one didn't have a lot of good matches. It had ok average Raw style matches. Like Sammy beating Bron. That could have been on Raw. The 6 man tag, another that wasn't overly special and could have been on a highlighted Raw the way NXT and AEW do "Heatwave" episodes with stacked cards on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights several times a year. Not much left to talk about since it played out the way it did. I guess there is one talking point, How Punk screwed Seth as well as Drew. They have a short story built in they will use for sure but when and where.. won't matter. The where is almost a given. There will be 3 at least, one in Chicago of course, one in the UK or Scotland if Drew has his way and it is still not finished into next year and one of Seth's choosing. I know he is from Iowa but Idk if he has an arena of choice that goes ballistic for him the way Chicago does for Punk and Scotland does for Drew but those will be the 3 locations.. maybe just the 2 and Seth attacks wherever as he was dragged along for the ride by Punk. I am almost positive Seth would side with Drew now as screw Punk over whenever he could too. The when is a little tougher though as they just went through those places. Will they drag it on past Summer Slam? Probably or will it start Monday on Raw? We will see.. a high score of 3 of 5.. maybe 2.5 of 5

I thought MITB sucked. Save for Bron Breakker and Jacob Fatu. This thing blew, big time. If I had paid $50 for this thing, I'd have been pissed.

I don't think Priest was the one that botched it up. I think someone backstage didn't play Drew's music on time. I believe it was supposed to go to a 2 count, then the music hits. Yeah, Priest looked visibly upset, but I think that's on purpose, because he realized that Punk interfered and helped him win. So Priest is upset because he still hasn't defended his title cleanly against anyone. Either way, whether Priest didn't kick out, or someone back stage was last playing the music, it was an unfortunate situation.

Dont think it was 5 out of 5 at all, men’s match was good not amazing, sami’s underdog wins arent believeable, world title match keeps making damian look weak and drew’s cash in was guaranteed to fail because of all the hype on failed cash ins being advertised, women’s match had comedy and big spots so it was great but no story line to it, tag match was great but cody apparently only goes sami zayn underdog mode when the title is on the line

HOT TAKE: this is the WORST PLE of the Triple H era so far. A heatless finish, a bad decision in the IC title, and I don't care about the storyline implications. The briefcase was wasted. Jey could have had it and casher in on the monster Gunther after he won the title at summerslam, leading to Gunther destroying him at Bash at Berlin. For me, this is a 2 out of 5, saved from being a 1 out of 5 because of Tiffany Stratton and Jacob Fatu.

MITB: 4/10 Action was solid but the stories just sucked. Brekker losing completely halts his momentum. Cannot take him seriously after losing to someone like Sami who I don't view as a credible champ and has the same exact yelling promo on RAW every week. Rollins getting the clear 3 count on Priest then them fumbling over it took me out of the match. Punk costing Drew blows out loud. I fear Punk will just get hurt again immediately and waste a year of Drew's career and life spinning in place for him to heal. Tonga Loa missed the low blow spot then when he did it, punched Tama Tonga right in the face. Ouch... Women's match was fine, messy, but done well.

Giving that show a perfect score is...certainly a choice lol

since i saw it lambasted so much, i have to say: imho the Drew booking made sense. 1) It removes the MITB Briefcase from the equation for hte coming year. WHen Damien Priest had his long run with the case, or basically every time that happens, people complained about how he wasn't cashing in on a good situation, even pointing out that the WM Cash in wasn't really "the best moment" because there had been better ones beforehand Now imagine, purely as an example, Priest and RHodes have a HiaC match that leaves both of htem completely drained and unable to do anything when the cage gets lifted. But nobody cashes in. "Why didn't *insert name here* cashing in?!" (Because, of course, the plans say so). Then he cashes in 2 months later in a less advantageous situation. "Idiot!" blabla I've now seen people go "Chad/Knight/whoever shoulda cashed the briefcase in on their midcard title!!!" Ya know, the same thing people called a stupid decision, and how stupid it made him look, when Austin Theory cashed in on the US belt... 2) "Why didn't Punk let Drew win the belt! THen he'd face him for it at SS!!!" For one, Punk wouldn't. Gunther has his KotR win shot at Summerslam. So either GUnther would get screwed by making it a Triple Threat (with him as the THird Wheel), or Drew retaining would be set. In any case, Gunther should be the next WHC champ. And if Gunther takes the belt, people would ask: "Why even have Drew take it at KotR!" And: Punk, for now, doesn't really care about the belt! He wants to make Drew suffer for injuring him, for running the pleasure he took in that and hten the SD attack. It's not about the belt. I mean, for other feuds, we love to criticise WWE just putting a title on one of them to make it seem "bigger" just for fans to go "Eh, the feud didn't need the title. Felt kinda tacked on and that guy deserved a better run..." 3) This neatly sets up Punk VS Rollins for later, since he screwed ROllins as well. While I agree that Punk or AJ screwing Drew in the MitB match could'Ve been the better call, it also could've led to other old complaints coming back. I think a major reason for the cash in complaints are a combination of "It wasn't the guy I wanted to win!" + "And they waste that immediately!!!" Making it seem, for them, far worse.

Cash-ins do have to fail sometimes, otherwise the gimmick doesn't work. So if you can make it that a failed cash-in doesn't leave the person looking like an idiot and instead have it forward their character and storyline... Hell yeah!

I disagree with Luke's take. Gable, Jey, Knight all feel like wrestlers that could have win and been a valid choice. Saying Drew was the only choice is dumb

5 out of 5? That premium live event was a trainwreck. Damien doesnt kick out. A wasted Money in the Bank cash in but at least we got Fragile Phil messing up ANOTHER championship match. Bron kills Ricochet but gets defeated by one Helluva kick. And the women almost killed each other. At least we didnt have to see Jade Cargill attempt to wrestle again.

Luke, I think you are not looking at the show time from the live audience perspective. By having longer video segments between matches allows the to relax and go to the restroom and get refreshments without missing anything. While we are at home it doesn’t matter but for everyone there makes a world of difference.

Botches aside MITB was booked perfectly imo. The Main Event needed a Stipulation tho, it felt like any other 6 man Tag you would see on Smackdown until the ref went down

I don't think you can really make somebody's entire gimmick to "Get beaten pillar to post then eke out a win in the end." That works every now and then but if it keeps happening, people will start asking "How do they keep winning when they keep getting beaten pillar to post?"

Calling this a 5/5 is absolutely bonkers. This was 3/5 if we're being kind. I love this channel but the show was half ads and video packages which kept killing any momentum the show gained, in my opinion.

I guess I'm in the minority, cuz this show was bad in my opinion. The women's match was best, the ic match was mostly good. But everything else was boring, predictable or just bad. Also 90 minutes of actual wrestling on a 3hour show? Are you having a laugh WWE? It's clear that some things will never change even with Vince gone. 2/5 show for me.

Of course, if they're really shooting for Solo vs Cody for the title at SummerSlam, Solo needed to pin Cody. Personally, outside of Heyman, the Bloodline story has been pretty damn boring since shortly after Wrestlemania.

The entrances to the men's MITB match took around 10 minutes while the match was 16. That's ridiculous. AEW's ppvs may be long but they flow a 100 times better than WWE's.

I don't know if priest fucked up or they fucked up drew entrance which was supposed to distract from the pin. That was very weird

Here's the other reason that Drew wasn't a "waste of a cash-in": WWE was pressured into having both a men's and a women's MitB match, but they never really embraced the idea of having two of the same prop running around. So for years, we've had IMMEDIATE cash-ins by the women. They either cash in on the same show, or on the following RAW. Carmella got a legit run with the briefcase, but the second longest women's run with the briefcase was ONE DAY. So the real beneficiary of Drew's cash-in is Tiffany Stratton. They made it clear at the press conference that her briefcase is getting a makeover, and it's not going anywhere any time soon. She gets to keep her prize, and I would argue that booking an immediate cash-in of the men's briefcase was an essential part of that decision. They got the men's briefcase out of the way so that "Tiffy in the Bank" (terrible name) can get a solid run without sharing the spotlight or feeling redundant/repetitive. I think people need to get accustomed to the idea that at least one of the briefcases is always getting cashed in quickly every year.

Can we get some consistency in these reviews? Was MITB really a 5/5?! You complained about the length and the fact that half the show was only video packages and commercials yet you didn’t deduct a single point? Not even a half point? Yet AEW’s length for forbidden door did negatively affect its score.

Personally, I think Drew was the wrong person to win the briefcase. The feud was already hot enough without Punk screwing him out of the title, and you could get the same effect by just having Punk screw Drew during the match if you'd like to have that. I just don't see this as a good storyline reason. I feel like it just adds another element that wasn't really needed. It just feels like wasting the briefcase on a moment that doesn't really add much because the feud and the match are already going to be heated as hell. It just felt wasteful

What I find so intriguing about MITB is the fact that every single match got a This Is Awesome chant. I don’t think I have seen that happen before ever and I have been watching since 2011

The best way to have everything make sense of the huge botch would be to say that Finn paid off the ref to not count 3 on Priest further adding tension in the group because Priest said "No Interference" and no one did. Just my thoughts

I don’t understand the love for the womens mitb match. It felt clumsy and I genuinely was worried someone was going to get crippled. The spots that weren’t botched didn’t look super impressive (tiff running up the ladder). Naomi’s spot was great and we got the right winner but I’ve seen better.

Sami Zayn is also just a better character than Bronn Breaker. How Zayn won was the right decision.

To me, I had such child like glee seeing feathers fall from Lyra every time she took a bump. I was just like "ah, she's really living up to her gimmick as 'bird girl' isn't she?" Though on a more serious note, I am curious about the Damian botch. While yes, he should've kicked out, but I'm wondering if someone in production missed timed Drew's entrance. Because it felt like the shot was meant to linger all the way up to 2, Drew's music hits, the camera pans to Drew making his entrance, and we weren't supposed to see the ref hold up the count because commentary was meant to tell us that Damian kicked out since we (at home) didn't see the kick out. Because Damian, nor Drew looked too pleased with what transpired there. Another theory is that Damian couldn't hear the ref, or Seth tell him to kick out, so the ref took it upon himself to stop counting, however you'd think production still should've tried to cut away to a different shot, in an attempt to cover that up. Idk, I'm merely speculating.

I thought MITB was great, lots of furthered storylines and awesome action. I wouldn't give it a 5/5 though

I think it's worth mentioning that the "Damien Priest not kicking out" botch was not his fault. It was clear that Drew's music was supposed to hit during the ref's count to stop it. It was a production gaff. If you actually believe that Priest simply just forgot to kick out when it wasn't the finish of the match then I can't help you.

You dont need to waste a MITB cash in to further a story. Took an opportunity to elevate someone for a story that didnt need it

I still think they should do 3-5 mins of ads at the beginning a nice 1min ad after the 1:15:00 mark and then the last ad block before the last match should be 2-3 mins long. Should be good like that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Last weeks RAW had 34 minutes of wrestling on screen in a 3 hour show, TNA Impact had 54 (on the app) if you count ad breaks, RAW had 56 minutes, and TNA had 57! Lack of wrestling in WWE is nothing new!

"Find the Balance" 3 hour show - 1 and a half hours of wrestling and 15 minutes of Cena, 1 hour and 15 minutes of entrances and video packages. That's actually perfectly balanced

The reason why it feels weird for Sami to win against Bron is that is true that of the guy fighting from behind and squeezing a victory from the jaws of defeat is his character....but that was his character as a babyface up until now *just in theory* . What I mean by that is we never saw that Sami babyface character as a champion under the direction of someone in greative that actually knows what he's doing. Just like under that new creative we really only have seen one Intercontinental Champion: Gunther. We really didn't know up until now if the idea was to position the Intercontinental Champion as a workhorse top guy the way we've always thought that belt should be positioned for years but hasn't for the last 20 years, or if the great threatment Gunther received was specifically to build HIM up, also because if we're honest, the other secondary belt on Smackdown, the US Title, hasn't really felt that special in the meantime, mostly because of Austin Theory's lacklaster run with it. After that it was Rey Mysterio for a short while and now it's an absentee Champion in Logan Paul.
