I used to live in a Bhuddist meditation centre and although they were nice people, the vacant look in their eyes was a tad disturbing and it turned me off the whole thing

It’s so predictable that westerns like John always mention the Dalai Lama like he’s the Buddhist pope. In reality he represents Tibetan Vajrayana which is maybe one of the smallest split off esoteric schools of Buddhism.

Nevertheless, to the Western world, the Dalai Lama is the recognisable face of Buddhism. Few would be aware of Mahāyāna or Theravada Buddhism. Of the 8 billion people in the world, 500 million are Buddhist. To the rest, Buddhism is Buddhism, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the most recognised Buddhist in the world.

And I suppose you have deep knowledge of the hundreds of branches of Christianity? How would someone know otherwise if they hadn't studied it in depth? How about being grateful that he's got a genuine interest in it and is talking about it on a large platform.

It's interesting that Cleese is drawn to Buddhism and thinks it's so sensible... but clearly knows nothing about it or it's founder. 🤷‍♂

I have a lot of time for Buddhism after spending many years in a Buddhist country but it too has problems. To many it become like a Pagan ritual where you can seek forgiveness by paying a cash penance, monks misbehave like Catholic priests and icons are lucky charms. The Path to enlightenment is a long one and it won't stop you coming back as a cockroach.

Not so. A person who believes there is no god, cannot be an agnostic. An atheist is anything -- animal mineral or vegetable -- that is not a theist. A- simple means non-. Had the word been coined in a colloquial context, it would just be "non-theist". An agnostic is more a profession of an inability to know. So excludes those who assert there is no god.

Alan Watts misses the mark as much as these two characters about Buddha. Let me emphasize, that all religions and beliefs came about by man's fear of the unknown and very, very, very dark times. If the construct of life on Earth is all fundamentally the same then so is it when you die and that you're no more than Roadkill. This is nothing more than an experiment and answers the lifelong question - why the insatiable need to orgasm or to have sex? To ensure an endless supply of unwitting participants! My dad was Protestant and my mom a devout Catholic and from the get-go, I always question the validity of Jesus. After all, he didn't rise from the dead he merely regained Consciousness after being in a coma and then leveraging himself to open the stone wall door only to succumb to his injuries later. I look forward to your comments ¿`_

People don't realise what a dissolute person Alan Watts actually was. An actual spiritual leader is fairly disciplined while Watts promoted alcoholism as his lifestyle choice.Believe it or not.
