Mr. Clarke has befriended the likes of Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks, Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe...and many others of the British punk and post punk scene. Many of these groundbreaking artists have backed him musically. He ran with the Sex Pistols and lived with Nico of The Velvet Underground. He used to open for Joy Division and Be Bop Deluxe. Alex Turner of The Arctic Monkeys has quoted Mr. Clarke's poems and referenced them since The Arctic's first single in 2007. He has been the subject of a BBC documentary, as well as the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate of Letters. Poser ? I don't think so....the word is ICON !!!

A few years ago John used to fill in for Jarvis Cocker and Huey Morgan on BBC6 Music whenever they were taking a break, and he played some amazing records. Made me wish they gave him a permanent slot. The man is a national treasure.

I've been an absolute bonkers JCC fanatic since I first heard him in the late 70s or early 80s. The few albums he did with the legendary Martin Hannett are the best Hannett ever did, even better than Hannetts famous Joy Division recordings. The best of the whole Manchester Scene.

For anyone who hasn’t already read JCC’s autobiography, I cannot recommend it enough. It’s already one of my top ten books ever, and the insight, wisdom, appreciation, joy and humour pour out of it. Not to mention the priceless music, literature and cinema tips that abound, and an attention to detail in everything from Rhythm and Blues to Beat Groups to New Wave Cinema to Ivy League clothing that borders on the obsessive, like any self-respecting modernist, of course! 😄

Actually, Bruce Webber directed several documentaries, but "Let's Get Lost" is his most famous and it's available on KZfaq. Webber was also associated with Chris Isaak, who is also in the film. The film was nominated for an Oscar in 1989.
