I was a walking scorer at a PGA tournament and got assigned Daly's group in the late 90s. He couldn't have been nicer to us volunteers. It was awesome to watch up close and personal. He signed his glove and gave it to me in the scorers tent.

His meltdowns were epic. Ever since I saw John win the PGA in 91', he's been great for golf. Got tired of watching the stuff shirts with zero personality play. I have also seen him in person twice and he is very personable with the fans. Once during a pro-am day, a small girl gave him a hat to auto graph. Daly put the hat on, played the hole, took it off and signed it and walked over to the girl to give it back.

Far as I’m concerned, John Dale, it was one of the best. He designed some good golf courses. He was great in his time and everyone goes through hard times.

Golf is one of those sports where you know you have a perfect game going and all of a sudden one shot destroys your whole game you know you can add on 15 strokes on one hole and you could be 15 under leading the tournament when this happens and something like this can be really dramatic

It's a mental game you know and when you think that you can't do it anymore you're done and it's just mental it's a mental side and it's if you can't control your mind you're out of the game no matter how good you are you have to strengthen your mind so that you can get through the worst situations and then be able to bring up some great shots out of nowhere and that if you can't do it then golf is going to get the best to you whether than you get the best out of golf

Anyone with an ounce of objectivity would realize that Daly, as lovable as he is, squandered away a lot of his God given talent with a lack of discipline, boozing it up every night, chasing the ladies and losing millions at the casino. Did he do what he could have in professional golf? Probably not, but he did vastly more than you did in whatever it is that you do. Go read about 10,000 hours and then to read about depression.
