I had a 2017 Kubota BX23S and now have a 2023 John Deere 1025R. There are things I like better about the Kubota and things I like better about the John Deere. Both have their pros and cons and in the hands of skilled operators are really capable and neat machines. I agree with what you showed in regards to the loader, it's the one thing I really disliked the most about the BX (other than maybe removing and installing the manual mid-mount mower deck). With that said, it appeared to me that you often did not have the loader bucket level when pushing into the pile but maybe it's hard to tell on camera. Kubota sells an optional bucket level indicator rod that is nearly identical to that of the 1025R. I added that to my BX. Having had both I'm enjoying the 1025R more but I think both are neat machines. I would just recommend sitting on both and trying before making your decision. I regret not doing that before buying the Kubota. In the end it will probably come down to which dealer you like more.

That’s a nice comparison! I’ve owned both a John Deere 1025r I bought new in 2014 with only a loader and MMM. I sold it back in 2016 because we moved and I really missed that tractor. I was always impressed with its performance for its size. I purchased a used low hour 2020 BX23s last summer. I love having the backhoe and I’ve been impressed with the performance of the machine. I did notice the loader was a little weaker than my old 1025r so I added a couple of shims. That made a noticeable difference. I haven’t noticed the power difference you demonstrated and it feels like I puts a little more power to the wheels on the ground than my 1025r but I do need to rev out the rpm’s more. The JD does have more power at lower rpm’s. The pressure relief valve would come on sooner on my 2014 1025r though and I could run it out of pushing power if I got solid traction with ballast sooner than my BX, or at least it feels that way. Both machines are awesome and I’ve been happy with both! Thanks for doing this review! I’m looking forward to more comparisons.

Thanks for the feedback! I really love hearing from people who have owned both. I realize I am not comfortable operating the Kubota and would love to see a video of a Kubota operator doing the same test. If you have the means please share a video! Thanks for watching I really appreciate it!

Since I am in the market for a small tractor, many people tells me to buy the Kubota. I do not see why. The way I see it, the 1025R is a proper tractor but small. The Kubota is an oversized lawn tractor with tractor attachments.
@EverythingGreenTractors2 ай бұрын
I appreciate you comments. The 1025 is small but powerful. I recommend going to your local dealer on both and operate them before you buy. Right now we have many incentives on 2023 year models and the Get in the Seat promotion I would take advantage of the timing.

My oversized lawn mower pulled a pickup out of a 6’ mud hole the other day. The operator in this video is incompetent in the use of the Kubota. Also, JD uses way too many propitiatory connections.
@EverythingGreenTractors2 ай бұрын
Hi Cowrocket! I get it I am not as familiar with Kubota as you are. Please if you have a Bx23S or BX23 shoot a video of your tractor going into a pile of dirt at idle and lifting a full bucket load of dirt or rock like we have done in our video with the Deere. I look forward to seeing your video!
@neokibo68992 ай бұрын
@@cowrocket3870 He kept repeating he was not at ease with the Kubota, we understood that part. However, other videos online still shows the Kubota being less strong at lifting than the BX. Pulling a truck is not my issue. Furthermore, it is a fail in my opinion to bring up proprietary connections because John Deere has 5 to 1 in the number of aftermarket part choices. Full of little shops around Canada and the USA fabricating parts and tweaks for JD stuff, while I can hardly find anything for Kubota. I need a bucket, a backhoe a snow pusher and snow blower with cabin. Put all those attachments and features together, I always end up with more money if I go JD due to the massive amount of non-JD attachments available. In addition, when I sat inside the Kubota last year and this year in the John Deere, I find there is more feet space inside the JD cabin, an important aspect due to our entire family being over 6 feet. Going Kubota ends up being 6K more in total. For a retired guy, 6K more in my pocket is important as it translates to years of fuel money for the tractor, ATV's... Both are reliable tractors with reliable Japanese diesel engines, so reliability is not an issue.

K 2380 here. Machine settles out at around 3k rpm. 2k is traveling, but not doing serious work. That said, full buckets and pallets struggle. Hydraulic specs are undersized for pressure. Stock loader is marginal, but three are options. JD dealer ignored me in the showroom for ten minutes. I need a very small footprint for my property, so I’ve made it work. I keep it in the shop and it fits fine.

very interesting indeed, love the tractor market. what I notice is the Kubota stops spining the rear wheels for some reason which I have to think is the limiting factor on being able to push into the pile. Except for the fact the bucket level was never achieved in the Kubota, pretty major difference. I think the Deere performed better for sure but I'm an orange guy (Kioti), which doesn't have the issues Kubota has pushing into a pile and has a good bucket level indicator. (and auto leveling bucket). more inline with Deere performance but cheaper (its a balance of performance and preference in this world)

Cool video! The kubota would have to be a decent bit cheaper for me to consider it over the JD. One thing id like to see is a 3 range transmission on these subcompacts. Not always seeing the wheels spinning mean more traction is left which would could help!

@@EverythingGreenTractors From what I have seen once properly ballasted the hydrostatic relief usually kicks in before spinning. If on low to moderate traction ground, at least. If worried about tearing up grass then we could just put it in mid range gear.

The treadle pedal and rotator backhoe seat are 2 huge negatives that would never let me consider a BX. I knew the loader was weak but I didn't know that engine/transmission would stall that easy. How do they sell these things!?🤨

He don't know what he's doing on the BX....he's in high range, he should be in low range, and the loader functions best at around 2500RPM as shown on the tach in nice orange text...not a fault of the tractor but a fault of the operator for not paying attention to what he was doing. If you run that JD in high range, and low RPM it'll perform the same way.

Well, unless you are floating and smoothing a driveway. Unless you have.. Im not going there with the compacts or regular ones.. These are not something to be handled like their bigger brothers and surely not like a 80+ hp. Cheers on the excavator techniques but yikes. This is just looking for something that wont work when not used correctly no matter what brand then trying to say whats better baised on nonsense.

Thanks. I have been using a subcompact tractor for 20 years for all kinds of loader work and my experience is you don’t need to be at max rpm and I never have been. The only time e my tractor is above 3000 rpm is when I mow. You can see from the video I am most comfortable at between 2500 and 3000 rpm when doing heavy loader work.

Just from personal experience I went with Kubota on both my tractors (B2650 and BX23s) over John Deere for 2 major reasons. Customer experience at the dealership level and bang for the buck. Deere may have some marginal and I do mean marginal better performance in some areas when comparing the machines but not worthy of the prices you guys charge. I spec’ed comparable machines by both brands and it was head shoulders better with Kubota pricing. Combine that with attitudes at the dealerships and KTAC insurance, and I’m more than happy with my “under performing” orange brand.

The JD dealer I went to wasn't interested in selling me anything considering the salesman's comment after looking at a JD X758, I asked him about the pricing difference between the X758 and a 1025R...figured may as well get a tractor with what the X758 was in cost. The salesman says why you can't afford one....so off I went to the Kubota dealer. Then after more research I'm glad I didn't go with JD and their proprietary coupler system on their loader...everyone else used an SSQA...JD wants you to buy their over-priced green loader attachments. In almost 3 years I haven't had a single issue with my BX2680, and won't do business with JD for any reason not with sales people like that, and I'm not the only one that has had similar experiences in my area with JD...there aren't many JD tractors around where I live either anymore.

Hi Ross, to answer your question, the operation of the Kubota loader and backhoe is printed on the dashboard tachometer of the BX23S. It begins at 1800 and ends at 4000. All one has to do is to watch the video to see the operating range, or look up images on Google of BX23S Tachometer. I realize this is a trigger point for some, if you don't believe what you see go to a dealer and try it yourself. Since we do have 2 Kubota BX23S's on our lot and one BX2680 I will look it up and see what they say. Thanks for the suggestion!

He's also operating in the wrong gear range, he should be in low range not high range.

To see which gear range I am in all you have to do is look at the fender below the joystick for the loader. The range control (high and low) and the 2wd 4wd selector levers are right there.
