I had a JD 42 round back. Its the pull type version of your 40. It had a lot of things wrong with it when i bought it, but i fixed it up and used it for oats for many years. They updated them, and made them a square back style. It would plug easily, but i put new cylinder bars on it, and that helped. I sold it to a JD collector at East St Louis IL. You have a good project for sure!

Those early JD 40 combines are awesome. Cant go wrong with any combine made by Gleaner or JD in the 50's. You got a gem right there!

New subscriber here. We have a few videos running our 1960 John Deere 40 with 8 foot head. I believe the motor is 115 cubic inches and 42 horsepower. You have a nice little combine there. Great video!
