Trying to get the corn ground ready for planting. The 4430 is hooked up to the White 271 21ft disk. Things are not starting out so good. Keep getting the tractor stuck. But still having fun in spite of the mud troubles.

Man I love that truck!! I really enjoy your positive attitude towards the constant struggles we face, you guys more than me! You had a day kinda like mine usually go! That ground didn't seem wet at all where you got stuck the second time. Can't wait to see the second part, hopefully you get your ground ready for fertilizer like you need. Thank you for bringing us along!!

I got stuck like that many times with a 4640. Did exactly the same thing you did getting both out of the mud. Don't think I ever got the front in like that though. You got me on that one. When I was a kid we had an Oliver 1800 with a narrow front that would happen with. Good Vedo!

Thanks for your time to share with us. That field, was very nice undisturbed and the structure of the soil was excellent for no-tillage - direct planting in it. That way moisture would be kept for month to come as corn needs a lot of water. You may have regular rain in that region though. Good luck !

I have never tried no-till. It would have planted nice. I primarily work the ground because I love doing it. If I did more acres I would probably do some no-tilling. This farm is a little on the wet side and will normally hold moisture good through the year. Thanks for watching!!

@@stinsonfarms6724 yes they are. White made some of the best tillage equipment in the industry back in the day. White moldboard plows were the best. My friends had a jd dealer in the 80’s and they said when deere come out with the 4450, they sent 3 around the country all running 3 different plows, JD, white, & IH...testing each of them. They were tested in our area of the country on their farm in western NY. He’s got pics to prove it. White was the best plow he said.

When I was growing up was working land we had a an 18’ Allis Chalmers 2300 on a 4240 and a 26’ Case IH 496 on a Ford 8670. Some years it was so wet we had to use the small disks on the 8670 that’s just the way it goes sometimes

I have had to do the same thing. Problem was, at the time I made this video I didn't have a smaller disk. This one is too heavy to pull in wet ground. I now have a smaller disk and had to use it for this reason this year.

Man that stinks. I stopped molboard plowing because of that reason. I found for our ground here is to chisel plow in the fall and then disc it then. In the spring the ground doesn't seem to have those wet spots and mother nature has taken the winter to fill in those voids and will give you support. Then in the spring I can get fertilizer spread and then run the field cultivator through it. Hopefully you can find what will work for you and the ground you have.
@stinsonfarms6724

My plan going forward is to do primary tillage in the fall and just light till in spring. Because of the farm being new to us and was rented to another farmer last year I didn't have the opportunity last fall. The crop didn't come out of the field till mid November. Plus we were dry most of April and have gotten a lot of rain since. I really need some type of light finishing tool. Thanks for watching!!

Just an observation your rear duals on the 4430 are spaced too close. And have you got fluid in your tires or wheel weights. We had a 4520 in the 70's that had close spaced duals and it was a problem in early spring whe farmed in what was called a floodway it was bad when we got a wood chunk or rock caught between them and had to pull them out.
@stinsonfarms6724
@stinsonfarms6724 3 жыл бұрын
I do have wheel weights and fluid in the inside tires. The duals are snap on and I don't have anyway to space them out. I want to get a set of hubs and so bolt on duals so I can adjust them where I want them. Plus the tires on the duals are worn out. Thanks for watching and commenting. Much appreciated!!

We always tried to moldboard plow in the fall and let the winter weather and settle the ground. If we used a moldboard in the spring we always tried to disc or field cultivate the field right behind the moldboard before it got rained on.

Why do Americans always disc? I feel like it makes the surface more uneven by throwing soil to one side of the machine. Then when you turn around and disc the next row in the other direction, you throw that soil and some more back again. My preference goes out to rotary harrowing for somewhat heavier soils, or plowing with packer rings on lighter soils.
@stinsonfarms6724
@stinsonfarms6724 Жыл бұрын
I still like to do it the old way. Plus, I use what I have. I will pull a harrow over it the last pass to help level out the ground.

As a soil technician, I understand that weather is most of the time the boss and that farmers have to deal with it. I suppose you had to do it and that maybe time was running out for you. On the other hand, I hope you knew what you were doing. You're the only one who knows the field soil and it's limit. For me, it was simply not the right timing to disk that field. I'm not judging you here. I'm simply giving my opinion.
