I bought another one - a 1996 John Deere 455. High hours, but well maintained. Here you'll see it plow my driveway in the dark in ~ -25 degree temperatures. The performance and capability of these diesels is incredible.

Good to see you got your hands on another one. I had the same fight with myself when I went to go pick up my x748. I paid more for that than I had previously ever paid for a vehicle, but its something I always wanted and I grew up using my dads 595 on the weekends and during the summer every free chance I got. Now that I finally have it I cant imagine life without it. Like your grandpa said sometimes youve just gotta bite the bullet and do what makes you happy. Glad to see you back making videos again, this is one of my favorite channels.

I’m very touched by your comment Ryan. The views I get these days are peanuts, so it’s the enthusiasm from viewers like yourself that drives me to keep uploading.

Well, first off congrats on the new tractor. I gotta say, I felt a connection with your story. My Grandpa also owned a 445 when I was kid. He bought it brand new in 1995, I was born in 2001 and so as a kid I was always climbing around on it and when I was old enough, learning to drive, mow, snowblow, etc with it. Fast forward to May of 2021 and he decided it was finally time for a new tractor after 26yrs. He bought a new X738 and gave me the keys to the old 445. I've now got quite a collection that started with the 445 that now includes a 1985 430, 1966 110, 1969 110, and two cub cadets being a 1975 1650 and an '89 2072 (I've got videos of some of them on my channel). Anyways, I've got my 430 sold to a friend and I think it's time to upgrade (some may see it as a downgrade) to a 455. I want to keep the 445 I inherited from my Grandpa in nice shape and so I'll be doing the same as you and finding a 455. I've got a lot of attachments for the 445 that'll transfer over which will work great. Anyways, keep up the good work man, there's still quite a few of us who enjoy it 👍

2x445 owner (one is AWS) bought the longer newest version of the reverse pedal off ebay, from the guy who does all these deere modifications, i can not recommend it enough, beats the factory pedal into being a detraction for buying any of these 415-425-445-455 deeres. it is worth every penny and was a breeze to install and it's tougher built and better made and almost triple the reverse range than the factory plastic trash pedal. i get why deere made those, with the u.s.a. 1996 safety act which put obstruction detectors on automatic garage doors, but i come from the 70's era and learned on 70's era machines how to properly use them, which most people are too negligent and irresponsible to even bother doing once, if ever in their lives. the laws were made for those people because too many of them were winning darwin awards and that was tying up hospitals that are already overloaded with prebaby boomers and keeping them alive to be 114 years old at all costs. and now the boomers are retiring and the emergency medical system will collapse under the strain. one thing you absolutely have to upgrade is the lights to the LED lights, alot of them are made wrong because they were made in china and they reversed the polarities in the bulb socket when they were made, so if you don't want to cut and splice wires to light sockets and play it safe, buy the ones from good works tractors web page , just go to his youtube channel and search LED upgrade. it will triple the brightness and field of view, worth every penny can not recommend them enough! do all 4. the two tail lights and the head lights, unless your missing the tail lights, makes twilight and night work SOOOO much better and easier even when it's snowing or pouring rain or heavy fog! also the factory deere plow is weak due to lack of vertical braces and or the top edge single bent top lip. add a piece of angle iron to the top edge and get it welded on before the blade bends backwards from pushing a deep heavy wet snow, was about 16-18" that ruined mine. also if you have a paved driveway get a sections of 1/4" hay baler rubber 6" and cut it in half length wise and remove the cutting edge from your blade and put the factory straight cut edge down so it's facing the ground and this is a better replacement for the deere factory nylon fabric sweep under the blade. this stuff also works great to extend the snow blowers impeller tight to the wall to send the snow further out from the blower chute by another 5-10 meters and you can just bolt it to the impeller fins. also works great to improve the suction and air flow and thus grass pick up lift of your power to run it long just the sides and rear of the mower deck to make it more like the deep decks. don't use it on the front of the deck, this is to allow the grass in to the blades and not bend the grass over before it gets to the blade. leave about a thumb width between the bottom of the skirt and the ground.

Mine has 1290 hours and i really appreciate every minute riding the 455. They are expensive but worth it. Leaking also some drips a month. Would like to see your repairs, if possible. Keep up!

You're missing out, haha. Snow clearing is one of the most fun things to do with a tractor!

13:30 The 455 has a cat-1 hitch on the rear (540 rpm) and a cat-0 mid-hitch (2000 rpm) - what are you converting to cat-1? I have a Honda 5518 which is designed with cat-0 and I agree with your discussion of trouble finding implements, and can only think the company is protecting innocent users who may go above their abilities by limiting them with the hitch size of cat-0. And the cat-0 implements rarely come uop for sale around here, so I am interested in how you are converting to cat-1. Do you ahve any other videos on this topic?

How much difference in capability is there between the 425 and 455? I have a 425 with several attachments and have always wondered how much of an improvement a 455 would be
