Replacing the PTO clutch in the John Deere 757 ZTRAK. Got an Extreme clutch from Ebay. It's suppose to be a better one than factory. I guess we will see.
Parts that might help with a project like this:
PTO Clutch: amzn.to/32WQjaP
Pullers: amzn.to/2pr6Sxd

If you're removing ANY pulley on these Deere's to remove or install either belt, you're doing it wrong. That spring to which you referred when talking about adjusting the tightness of the belt is actually for removing the belt. The pulley on the left (as viewed from the rear) rocks upward, the spring providing resistance, to remove the belt. In fact, on that same side, there's a few holes in the frame to assist, as you can slide a large screw driver (or in my case, the handle of a ratchet) thru the hole to gain leverage on the arm to lift the pulley up (you may have to start it with your hand, and it isn't hard to move with your hand). The deck provides the same "system" for removing and installing belts, with the pivoting pulley directly under your right leg (as observed from sitting in the seat, or inboard on the discharge side of the deck towards the back. Don't make a simple job harder. These engineers have thought of everything... Deere is the benchmark for a reason!

@@mossman381 And too, I have the Xtreme, but reviewing to replace crankshaft seal. My original clutch, by John Deere shorted and went bad. Now a short means lots of current & can attest that when my clutch went out, the wires past the harness connection smoked and burned. I had to patch the wiring harness. I have a fuse inline. It's currently a 20 amp fuse, so may go down to 15 amp fuse. It may actually need less, but the point is, I contacted John Deere and said why didn't you design the Clutch harness with a fuse inline, so that besides the clutch replaced, I just would need to replace the fuse too, and not have a ugly harness burnup.

Well done and informative video! Thanks for editing non-important parts out. I'm looking at an Extreme clutch today. I think the coil has gone bad on mine. Has melted connectors and is reading a tad over 1 ohm. yay.

What should I check if I’m not getting voltage to the pto? Is there a fuse?
@mossman381
@mossman381 Жыл бұрын
Well, there is a switch before any fuse. Not sure because mine had power going to it so I didn't look any farther.

looks like a good time lol. I wanted to throw you a quick tech tip, when you are checking voltage you should check with it disconected first then again with the clutch connected. the reason for that is if you have a damaged wire ( frayed or broken almost whole way threw) it may give you voltage by itself but as soon as it gets a load on it the voltage will drop because of the resistance on bad wire or conector. thiš has bitten me a few times. on a side not that looks like a much better clutch. nice job

@@mossman381 Moss, thanks anyway. Just for your & others info, I've been trying to buy the rear idler pulleys....the ones just under the clutch. One of which I couldn't find at all. Called John Deere. Conversation went like this... "Hello, I need a rear idler pulley for Part No. -------". Sorry, we don't have any. "No, problem. Could you give me the contact info for an aftermarket supplier?" "Sorry, I can't." Why not? "There is none." What do you mean? "The part isn't made anymore, period." You're kidding? "No. Sorry." Currently, I'm beating the shit out of a bearing.

Sense nobody hasn’t explained how to get the PTO off I will explain it’s really simple all you need is WD40 a hammer and a balljoint tool. Spray the top of the shaft with WD40 let soak for awhile then take the balljoint tool wedge it between the motor and the top pully so that it goes around the shaft hammer it in and it will push the pully off of the shaft. This works on all John Deer mowers. You may have too take all the motor mount bolts out so you can reach the top of the shaft it depends if your motor is vertical or not

These mowers need new fuel and air filter every year. Also check your valve adjustment. They are suppose to be adjusted every 300 hours. Are you running on both cylinders?

use a small pipe wrench on opposite side, between hydro belt and blower housing, just aft of keyway, won't hurt anything. also useful for getting pto bolt out :)

You can remove the plugs rotate the motor till one of the piston goes down then put a piece of rope in that cylinder leaving the rope hanging out. When the piston comes back up it won’t be able to compress the rope and this will prevent the motor from turning.

I have used FORD f 150 5.4 FAN CLUTCH TOOL on my john deere mowers because they fit the slotted piece the bolt goes into, and it will hold it from turning when using an impact gun. Also instead of using a puller to remove a stuck on clutch, I start the motor, let it just idle, place a long pry bar where the mower deck drive belt goes. With just a small amount of pressure it will slide right off.( BE SURE TO REMOVE THE MOWER DECK DRIVE BELT BEFORE DOING THIS)

+MRJOHNDEERE3720 The battery light comes on when the throttle isn't open all the way. The machine is designed with the hydrostat to be at full throttle all the time. You need hydraulic flow for a hydrostat to work right.

@mossman381

+MRJOHNDEERE3720 A hydrostat system works on pressure. To have good pressure you need engine speed. I would guess if you looked in your owners manual it will tell you to run at full throttle once the engine is warm.
