Thank God there are still people teaching their kids the value of hard work and teamwork. Brings back a lot of memories for me as well, but in today’s world, I am thankful to see the kids and parents working together to accomplish a common good goal.

Brings back memories as a teenager. Come home from school and taking the Ford tractor out to the fields and picking up the wagons, unload in a shed just like shown here.

This is easily the best video I’ve seen on KZfaq. All the old Deeres working and the corn harvesting equipment I’ve never seen before up here🇨🇦,and the kids having a ball. I’m still smiling and will probably watch it a few more times tonight,thank you

Un hermoso video del 730... recuerdos de la infancia donde mis primos aprendían a manejar en ese tractor y con mi hermano aprendiamos en el Fiat 780. Dos caballitos de batalla que alguna hacían crecer a la Argentina... saludos y gracias

Thanks for sharing these videos! Grandpa had the same elevator, mounted picker and pull-behind. I spent many a chilly hour riding in wagons leveling loads. I greatly enjoyed going back in my mind to a much simplier time.

You have a lot of very nice old equipment. It's a so simple and efficient and works well. I remember that fresh picked ear corn has a unique smell. Ain't norhin' like it. I think it's fine how you all work together. Beautiful!

As a kid who grew up in Chicago, and moved to rural S.W. Lower Michigan in the early 60's as a teenager, I remember the corn fields around me being picked liked this. Next the farmer got a tractor mounted machine like in the opening video. He used Allis Chalmers tractors and Ideal pickers. Later in the 70's he got a 4 row Gleaner picker/sheller. Those old farming practices led to hunting Pheasants, rabbits and deer in the picked fields. Today farming yields no birds, orrabbits, but lots of deer.

Opening shot of the family coming out of the wagon was a surprise! Whatever that miniature tractor with a wagon is....is a child’s dream come true. I had the chance for a free corn crib like yours if I would remove it.....sure wish I could have. Nice video showing the process of picking corn. Reminded me of the book by Mrs. Hobbs, corny corn picker.

Y'all are bringing back some very fond memories as when I was a kid helping my grand dad. I hope those young kids learn from this method of farming. I know many will disagree with the old traditional way but, soil was still saved, farm ground wasn't "compacted" like that of today and for harvesting, granted not nearly as high yields then as of today but, very little loss back then compared to what combines do today. I'll still take this old equipment over that of today's "junk". This IS farming and this IS what it's all about. I really hope you keep this going in your family. Great video, cheers :)

I remember my dad picking corn and filling the corn crib when I was a kid. I don’t know of anyone that still picks corn in my area. My siblings and I used to have corn fights in our corn crib. We did a lot of dangerous things on the farm back then. Most of the time I was the only one that got hurt.

Brought back a lot of memories. We had a Farmall 450 on lp with an IH234 mounted picker. My brothers still farm only now they run 2500 acres but the 450 is still around although it doesn’t get used much. We had a John Deere elevator much like yours and had a couple a wooden wagon boxes and one metal one like yours. “Electric” might have been the brand? Picked a lot of ear corn and shelled corn into “Knight” wagons. When I was in high school in the mid 70s we got a New Idea pull type. Eventually lengthened out the elevator and picked into Kilbros 350 wagons. We could pick corn twice as fast as the old mounted picker. Ran the pull type picker with a 966 that had a cab in the late 70s, early 80s. Thought we were really living large.

Corn cribs are for storing the corn when it is still on the ear. They were mostly used back before they had combines that would separate the corn off the cob. Not many ppl use them anymore. Thanks for watching!

I enjoyed watching your corn picking video. Thanks for showing. Can I ask, do you have livestock to feed all this corn to?
@Deandeere40202 жыл бұрын
Yes a few steers
@johnmitchell77672 жыл бұрын
You must loose a big percentage of corn doing it this way or do you harvest early
@Deandeere40202 жыл бұрын
We usually harvest late this is just a hobby for us and we feed like 5 or 6 cows with it and grind up the ears to feed them. We don't sell any corn usually. Thanks for watching

after years of seeing how much corn some of these combines leave on the ground I wonder why more people don't pick the corn. when we grew and picked corn we didnt leave any grain in the field. I'll bet some of these combines are leaving 4 or 5 bushels to the acre on the ground
@daveklein28262 жыл бұрын
With modern equipment its more like 1-2 bushels. with large farms hand picking would be prohibitive
@derfvader69512 жыл бұрын
@@daveklein2826 the fields I see look like they were drilled with grass with a plant every 2 or 3 square inches and the stuff is sometimes knee high by the hard freeze And we are talking use of mechanical pickers not by hand.
