Got a John Deere S780 that broke two left hand sieve swing arm bolts and did some damage to the sieve frame. See what it takes to rebuild a sieve frame and install all new swing arms on the machine and time them correctly. It is quite a lengthy repair so kick back and enjoy!

Thanks for another great video ZK and Josh. Most interesting video. Big time repair work here. Wow. My compliments to both of you for completing this job. Never saw that much of the guts removed. When those bolts busted it caused big time damage and sure tore things up. Once again I am amazed at your knowledge and skills ZK at repairing this machine and returning it to the field. I personally thank you for imparting your knowledge onto Josh as he becomes a skilled technician also. You are a good teacher. Lots to repair and new parts to add and put it all back together. I learned a lot on this one. You pick things up just by seeing it done. Thanks to both of you for putting this combine back in the field working. Thanks for everything. The Iowa Farm Boy. Steve.

Zeth, watching you and Josh work is technical harmony. If you ever get a chance to tour the plant that presses that sheet metal for those big machines see if you can take a video of the big shears and breaks they have. I bet they are all CNC precision tools. That would be cool.

With the wire join, slide it on one end first twist your wires together then slide the connector over it. Will get a cleaner connection. Thanks for all your awesome content

So much going on in those things!! I gotta say, coming from Cat heavy equipment, it seems like the sheet metal looks so thin for how much abuse it takes. You’re a better man than me for dealing with combines during harvest!

Seems like JD and New Holland are the same with the flimsy sheet metal. I know they try to reduce weight on the sieve cleaning area , but all the back and forth everything goes back there that sheet metal is the first to show problems with fatigue and cracking and things get rubbed.

My 4320 was sold new at the Assumption location back in 1970. At that time the dealer was called Shilling and Sloan. Not sure what location you guys are at but I suspect that there's a chance "Wardo" was around when that was pre delivered. I used to be a Deere mechanic here in MD...now I just farm with mostly Deere equipment. Nice video by the way...always quality content!

I had the same thing happen in my 9770. Back bolt broke caucused the front bolt to pull thru the sieve frame. Yea 7k later …. What I have come to determine is the back bolt broke and overloaded the front. The sieve dropped down and hit the clean grain augers. We replaced ally the swing arm bolts and torqued them. I think it’s around 300ftlbs. Deere tech looked it up. Now I torque those bolts every year.

The solder connectors work great. Just make sure the solder does turn shiny. Otherwise the connection could fail due to poor penetration of the solder.

When I got my milwaukee hot air gun It came with a thin nozzle attachment and a curved piece that makes heating those solder joints way faster because the heat is concentrated. I've been using both for years. I'd say the heat gun is nowhere near as effective as a plug in one. But it's useful to be able to heat shrink where needed with out flame/gas soldering iron fire risk and no cable extension lead. I also got the same m12 rivet gun and that really is fantastic. It will do fairly hefty rivets too. And way smaller than the m18 version. Fits in all the small places I need it to.

It's a great video, as usual. Have you tried using black electrical tape to hold wires to the connector? Leave a 1-2 inch tail on the tape to pull off once the connector grips.

our Subaru hasa problem, the wire coatings and shielding are no longer oil base products, now bio products which mice like the taste of, did John Deere go to the bio shielding and insulations on the electric stuff? If so, you are gonna be hating the hungry mice eating the wiring on all the green stuff.

Hi Zeth, I have a JD S770 that is showing light scuffing on the right rear lower sieve swingarm. Combine feels smooth while running and doesn't create any unusual vibration. I also have checked the bolts for tightness and swingarms for play and everything feels fine. When we installed them after last years inspection, we did position the sieve and chaffer in time. I have about 300-350 acres left of high moisture corn starting Tuesday and hoping it will make it to the end. Any thoughts? Thanks for the videos, I've been able to keep more of our green (and other colors) iron moving with more confidence.

@devomx3027

Its where the sieve on the right rear lower side bolts to the lower part of the rear arm. The round black gasket doesn't look damaged but the heads of the two rivets have some wear as well as right below the arm on the sieve frame.@@ZKMasterTech

There is also more of a gap between the frame and side of combine on the left than the right which is the side that it is rubbing on

@ZKMasterTech 10 ай бұрын
@devomx3027 I have seen crop material get behind the sieve frame seal on the RH side and push it towards the side sheet making it rub. Only way to tell or fix it is to pull the sieve frame.
