Scott and Alan Williams running two John Deere combines harvesting corn at a rapid pace. I walked through the field and was amazed to see there was no corn on the ground.. These combines were doing amazing jobs!

I figured the same thing, but I was shocked to see how little corn was on the ground.. I looked pretty good too but saw hardly any..Figured maybe since the corn was so dry it shelled better? But I don't know much about corn so that was just a guess.

I loved this video with the filter on your camera. Was it a red or brown filter? It seems the microphone on your drone was not functioning so you dubbed in the sugar cane harvesters sound track. Is that what happened?
@AerialAg3 жыл бұрын
There is no microphone on the drone. The sound is from this combine I took with my camcorder. I do use a lens filter on the drone to reduce washout from the sunlight, but there's no color to it. I touched up the color a little bit with my editing app, but just barely. This is pretty much how it looked.

Wow awesome video Buddy! Wow that S790 is making great time! Up here in 🇨🇦 the corn very rarely drys down like that. Did the farmer desicate the corn field? You know what moisture the corn was? You know me lots of questions! 😂 Thanks for sharing the video!! 👍👍

We don’t desiccate corn in the south. Plenty of heat and sunshine to dry down on its own. Corn rarely gets dried with propane / natural gas down here either. Only time it gets run through a drier is if the operation has a bunch of corn acres and wants to get started early. Some cotton farmers will start harvesting high moisture con and run it through a drier in order to have time to defoliate their cotton on time / start picking cotton

Small head on a class 9 with all that power, that would be the only way they could move at that speed, the BIG question is would it be better to run slower with a 12 row head, as with 2 passes you would be doing what it takes them to do 3. At that speed I should think it was all the grain carts could do to keep up with them. Had to be filmed from the air otherwise if you blinked you would miss one going past. - Is this the beginning of a new generation of "high speed" farming, - great video as always.
@AerialAg3 жыл бұрын
Thank you.. I was actually brought out to the field with a salesman from John Deere. From what I heard he will be upgrading to a larger head for next season.
@christopherlovelock91043 жыл бұрын
@@AerialAg Interesting. Are JD developing a bigger head so that you can run at that speed then.? Or is it just a case of he is upgrading to the 'standard' 12 row head. If they can get a 12 row head on a combine to run at that speed (cleanly) he will need to 'upgrade' his grain carts as well, - it was all they could do was to keep up with 'production' their.
@Ellison89Brett3 жыл бұрын
Christopher Lovelock throughput (bushels/hour) of the machine won’t change if the head changes. That’s assuming he was running the machine near full capacity in the video. Going to a larger head would allow them to run slower ground speed while keeping the machine full.
@christopherlovelock91043 жыл бұрын
@@Ellison89Brett Yes I quite agree, - (that's just maths). - What I'm curious about Is what speed they hope to run at with the bigger heads, - if they are hoping to maintain that speed (or very near it) I would think that is going to be a sight to see.!!

I would think so because you lose efficiency constantly turning around at the headlands. With a 400 bushel grain tank, I would think an 8 row head would really make opening fields a lot easier though.

They would be harvesting over 15 acres per hour. This corn looks pretty good for that area. If it's making 170 x 15 acres they could be filling 3 trucks per hour. Very dry corn that's standing perfectly allows them to drive that fast. We can only travel half that speed in 200 bu 22% corn.
@AerialAg3 жыл бұрын
@@lfeco They were moving pretty good and most surprising to me no corn on the ground.. I'm not too familiar with corn as I live in sugar cane country.. but I thought for sure they'd be some loss moving at that speed.. I was wrong
@Dan-91073 жыл бұрын
@@AerialAg The important thing with combines is keeping them at a good load not the speed. You experience more grain loss coming from under loaded machines (not having enough grain move through them) or improper settings. The only real loss from speed would be from the head, from ears bouncing out and kernels breaking off the ear.
@Dan-91073 жыл бұрын
I would like to say that from what I understand having a head run at that speed isn't good on it. Thats why most people run at least a 12 row with a combine that big.
@marcusjames38143 жыл бұрын
I have seen combines achieve faster ground speed wit a smaller head than a 12 row corn 🌽head 8 row on a S790 running 7mph wit wit no grain loss out the rear chaffer of the combine

It's not that quick for a 8 row head. However, it's a nice machine. Most folks up north run 12 or 16 row headers. They're the folks producing most of the video. Just doesn't seem efficient.

7mph with an 8 row head is 3.5 mph with a 16 row head. Problem with going fast harvesting is if there is something in the field and you can't stop in time. Next thing you know you got a bent point..... or worse
@rickyivey85963 жыл бұрын
I guarantee you running 7mph there’s corn coming out the back. I like to see that field in 3 weeks after he disked it and it got about a inch or two of rain, it would look like he planted corn as a cover crop.
