If you think you've seen it all, hang on. Clayton Camp, who's the VP at Kern Machinery in Bakersfield had his Service supervisor install one of the John Deere crate motors into his 1969 2500 GMC truck. This thing looks better than factory, with some serious upgrades to the drive train. It's part of our Back to Life series. If you like car/truck builds, make sure to follow and sub our page. We have a H&S Body Works Back to Life playlist just for builds. H&S does some of the best builds in the Western United States. We've got some really cool stuff coming for gear heads.

Great build! My uncle owned a Kubota dealership back in the late 70s. He and my dad decided they needed a small service truck for the tractors. The winter on 78 my dad laid out the plans for that truck. He found a 74 model Toyota pickup and added a 30hp 3 cylinder Kubota diesel to the truck, then made the adapter plate for the Toyota 5speed manual. Ordered a reading service bed for the truck and painted the entire truck Kubota orange. It was completed in time for me to ride in it on my first day of kindergarten in the fall of 79. My uncle retired and closed the dealership in the mid 80s and my dad kept the truck. The drivetrain is now in its second Toyota body but still going. Top speed 71mph @52mpg.

Seems like a segway to re-enslave and lose personal rights to own property. In general the electronics industry seems to be more USSR secret where the olden days of purchasing a device with the schematics stapled to the interior case are gone in regards to being a general expectation. Now, there's proprietary firmware, hidden chip processes, software that is licensed and not owned, and some other concepts conning.

@slowride55 : Funny you say that, because I had the same problem. In the 1990's, after achieving 2 college degrees, in Ag Business and Equipment Engineering, John Deere pushed me away with their pathetic compensation. 2 years into working for them, it was obvious they just weren't willing to pay a fair wage, so I left. When I later worked for a CIH dealer, pay rates were a bit better, but still not good enough either, and I eventually left there as well. The agricultural industry as a whole suffers from consistently losing good, intelligent people because they all pay substandard wages. It's an unfortunate situation for everyone who loves Ag, but needs to make a reasonable living and refuse to be dirt poor while the corporations continue to line their wallets.

@@gonerydin4225 Best I can remember the RV chassis business was right during the late 80s financial crisis so I am sure it was cut quickly with such a small profit margin. As to the service trucks I worked at a Deere Dealership that had looked into buying one. Also I have seen a brochure for them on eBay several years ago. Now were any ever produced that is certainly up for debate. Like I said it doubled the price and the only benefits were the dealership could work on the engine and that it had a longer life. I'm sure the transmission and other components would have been a warranty nightmare. That said there may have never been any produced.

My build started in the early '80s with a '70 3500 one ton GM with 9' stepside bed . Ist engine was a takeout from a C-65HD Chevy = GM 4-53N, along with a Spicer 3152 five speed transmission , backed up with a Spicer 5831 three spiied auxilliary with .74 overdrive. I put it on the road in September '84, and in '96 I installed a DD 4-53T. Originally I stayed with original 4.10 ratio rear, but several years ago, I switched to a 3.58 Dana '70, as now it'll cruise the interstate with traffic, and not have engine singing . 38 years plus about 300,000 miles verifies it's been a practical-successful conversion .

I was surprised at the statement as well, but mechanical parts can fail at any time...considering the truck is over 50 years old and anything could have happened to them in that timeframe, if he said they twisted why do we care what the circumstances were or even question if it could happen???...yes you could say its highly unlikely a 3/4 ton axel would twist but it can happen...its also highly unlikely he just made it up for a bullshit talking point...just enjoy the video and the truck they created and not be so critical...

Wow, I have a 1999 Ford Ranger that I bought right before I got hit on my Harley and had my leg crushed and ended up with "extensive" (surgeon's words not mine) blood clots that placed me within ten minutes of dying. They saved me and I have been chomping at the bit to get back to walking and doing stuff I love. Thank you for the inspiration my friends. Also I am a chemical engineer with a Master's degree bu I would trade it in a second to go back to working on small engines and farm equipment which is what I grew up doing. I dread going into work every day and also I have not been able to work or walk for the past eight months I am working on starting a small engine/mobile welding business when I am allowed to get back to my life.

Unfortunately in the last 10 years, Deere have gone long away from Deere of old. Back in the 1910s and up until the 80s, Deere equipment was built to he worked on by the average farmer. After the last board member who had any connections to the original Deere family retired, the company pretty much said, if the farmer is desperate enough to get the equipment working, they'll pay the field techs as much as possible. In their modern machines, especially the hydrostatic drive machines, they have a counter in the systems to count how many times the owner did not come to a complete stop to go in the other direction, just to say warranty will not cover this. If you're going to buy a John Deere anything, you're better off buying something from 1980s and prior.

@@izzyplusplusplus1004 Sure it is. Any field mechanic capable of working on any brand of equipment is using diagnostic systems like TEXA and others today. JD thinks everything is "proprietary" but that's just not the case.
