I just came from my John Deere dealer and was looking at an S240 until I mentioned I will need a snow blower as well. He then directed my attention to the X330 due to its much stouter frame. The other thing with the S240 is the deck adjuster. You have to look over your thigh to see the grooved slot and guess which one is 3" and then if you need to raise the deck to clear an obstacle there is no cut height setting as on older models, you just have to guess again. The 330 is similar to older models with a cutting height wheel and you just raise the deck and drop it back again knowing your cut height is already set. Much better.

If anyone is considering this mower, I would strongly reccomed that you step up to the X350. Briggs and Stratton engines are junk. Spend the extra $ and get the 350 with the Kawasaki.

I picked up my X330, on May 15, 2018, have enjoyed it greatly. I use Mobile One OW 30 oil, and installed a fuel shut-off valve to keep the carb clean and dry. My former Deere was an L 118, which I'am selling. For having a Briggs engine in the 2004 L 118,

Never thought I'd hear a K46 transaxle referred to as an "upgrade" for anything, and then Deere came out with those plastic case transmissions. The K46 is your entry level transaxle found in the vast majority of entry level lawn tractors. Works fine for mowing, just do try pulling anything of any substance.

I have owned an x300 for over 11 years, and it is still running strong. It has over 800 hours and the 42" deck had to be replaced last year to a 48". The Kawasaki truly is a beast, and i have had no transmission problems. The X-series are true John Deere's. Honestly the D-series are an MTD with a John Deere name slapped on. The D-series are a piece of junk. Sorry to say.

Daniel Crown as far as the d series, now e series, you couldn’t be more wrong. The d/e series tractors are not mtd, they are John Deere made by John Deere in their Greenville tenn plant. I have a x370 and had a d130 a simple KZfaq search and you can find a video of the d/ e series being assembled at the John Deere plant in Greenville tenn.

All JDs are made by JD at their factory. Like the other gentlenan said, even a quick search debunks this myth. Even the models they sell at Home Depot, if you order online through Home Depot, you get free white glove delivery and the JD mower is delivered to your home and set up by an actual JD dealer/servicer (i.e., not Home Depot).

While the D series is not made by MTD, they are not built as well as the LA or L predecessors. Too much plastic and cost cutting.
@michaelwalser9497
@michaelwalser9497 2 жыл бұрын
@@chuckwalla325 partially true. They are assembled at John Deeres plant using parts from quite a few vendors. If the JD has a Black & Decker or Kohler engine those are MTD products, using MTD carbs and other part's as well. MTD has their hands in most products. Dewalt, Craftsman, Cub Cadet, Husqvarna, Troy Built. etc. They have bought out, rebrand, or supply the largest part of the mower market

I bought the X330 back in 2006 and its been great, not too bad for issues, starts up every spring. Only complaint is the slow-leak prone wheels/tires. I've had three JD's plus a trailer and had slow leaks in almost every tire. That's minor though, as the overall quality is worth the small irritation

Just for a small comparison to my JD D130. My history with the JD brand, I ran a JD STX38 with a manual transaxle for 17 years, I had excellent service from that one, finally decided I wanted a hydrostatic, so I sold my old one and bought a JD D130 5 years ago, it currently has 99 hours on it. I have to say its been terrible, by that I mean the dealer isn't making any money servicing it or selling parts. In that 5 year period all I have needed to do is oil changes and replace the battery one time. It has been an excellent mower, I'm a very satisfied customer. My D130 has a B&S 22 hp v twin engine so it is pretty comparable power wise, its a bit confusing all the different engines with a various hp ratings, I don't know what B&S is doing there. My engine is very similar but doesn't have the oil drain tube like yours, it has a drain but not as convenient. Your side mounted gas filler is a big improvement over mine which is under the seat. The older D130 has a manual blade engagement so if you get off the seat with the blades engaged it shuts the engine off, not so hot about that, but overall I love my John Deere.

I will never buy a MTD mower ever again. When I cut its 2-3 hours, no matter how I maintain an MTD it never lasts past 3 years. The deck parts on every MTD I've had would always break within the first year. Though my land is a little bumpy, it still shouldn't break that easy. I've had an X series John Deere for 4 years now and it has not once failed me, it's construction is 100 percent superior to the MTD brand.

One, that’s not “like” a PTO, it is a PTO. Two, the safety switch under the seat does not disengage the blades. If you get up off the seat, that safety switch will kill the motor. When my X370 was delivered, I already had two jumper wires prepared. One for the seat safety and one for the RIO (the push button for mowing in reverse). Installed both of those before I ever started it. You only need one safety, and that’s between your ears.

@alans.4658
@alans.4658 5 жыл бұрын
I have the X350 and the bagging performance is outstanding. I bought mine this spring with the bagger and it did an amazing job of spring cleanup. Since then I've installed the mulch kit and it too does an excellent job of mulching. JD suggests removing the mulch kit for optimal bagging so in fall that's what I'm going to do since I've got an acre with many trees.

I was wondering if the E130's Transmission is strong enough for Lawn Rolling and using a small utility cart ( Rhino ) up a 30deg 15 foot hill from my back yard to front yard . Mostly my back yard has a slight angle but I am more concerned about hauling from back to front yards . I know JD has a good product and I am hoping the transmission will hold up for years if it is built strong enough for the workload that I want to use it for .

I have a small utility cart for my X330 and I use it to move dirt, beauty bark, pavers, gravel, etc and so far have had no issues. I am not pulling any hills as you describe. I think the key is total weight that the machine is trying to move and or pull. Stay within reason and you should be ok.
@mrbubetube
@mrbubetube 4 жыл бұрын
you can do it but then you will need to service the "unserviceable" transaxle if you want to keep it running. It takes a skilled mechanic to do this so if you're not a mechanic, sometime after the first 50 hours, you will need to take it to a shop and have them remove the transaxle, dump the old oil out of the transaxle, open the transaxle and clean the dirty oil and metal shavings out of the gear box, reseal the transaxle and then fill it with a synthetic 5W50 oil. Then it should be good for another 200 hours before you should do this again. If you never do this, the transaxle will lose torque until it becomes useless.

The "dreaded" tuff torq k46 single hydro pump transmission found on 60% of all riding mowers is notorious for mechanical failure, no consumer serviceability and lack of hill climbing power. For $2999 you can get a 42" timecutter zero turn (#75744) with 10 guage steel fabricated deck, dual zt 2100 "hydro gear" drive pumps, 3 gallon gas tank and 36 vs 24 month warranty. Just sayin'.

DONALD1951 Depends on your needs. If you want something that can blow snow, handle rougher ground, and has a frame that will last for 1,000 or more hours, buy a X330. If you just want a mower, and don’t plan on keeping it for over 700 hours, a S240 will be fine! I will say, I have more faith in the Kawasaki 18 Horsepower motor than the Briggs, so I’d get a X350 over a X330, but either is great!
