I had the pleasure and honour of directing that concert for John in 1990, (and editing half the songs, including this one), as well as directing/editing 3 of his music videos (Chain Reaction, That's Freedom and Talk of the Town). I worked with a lot of singers and bands, both Aussie's and overseas singers, and John will always remain at the top of my list as the best singer I ever worked with. And such a great person. Thanks so ,much for the upload and reaction. This brought back some wonderful memories.

Interesting take on Stevie’s classic from his Songs In The Key of Life album. There are some very brief Acapella moments in his version but I did not expect this from Mr. Farnham. It was really stunning. Yes, you should listen to Stevie’s original, just for context, so you can really appreciate what a great cover this is. Nice comments on John and what he had to say about your journey through his music. Love ya bro.

There was some serious talent in there with John. Miss Venetta who I have learned to love dearly, she kissed the flowers off his face. She was the backup, touring and session singer in for many famous people like Pink Floyd, Bob Dylan, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, Graham Nash and I refuse to name the other one I know. She was in Barbra Streisand’s A Star is Born and she sang in other movies. If you heard her sing the first verse of Amazing Grace with John then you know what she can do. I still don’t know how she became a part of John’s family but I am so grateful she did. She teaches voice and lives about 4 hours South of me now. She could have had any career she wanted singing or acting. I recognised 3 others of his backup singers all amazing but there was other talent there that just come to sing with John. John has taught me that everyone has a name and a life on his stage and a very special place. That he isn’t, he thinks, who he is without them. He is but they add something else wonderful. Thank you and I am a Stevie Wonder fan. I hadn’t heard this song until John.

Michael, I had never heard this song before either so after hearing John and the bands cover I had to listen to Stevie's original and I have to say that John's cover is just stunningly better in my opinion. Fantastic reaction as usual as love your voice as well!! ❤❤

You should listen to the live version of 'Amazing Grace' featuring two of his back up singers - Venetta in particular - it is sooooo good - her voice is amazing and moving - In Australia we call people chopping down others as the 'Tall Poppy' syndrome - it is nearly always based on some sort of jealousy or envy of those who are doing something right or popular - which really only highlights their own insecurities and not your failing. Don't give the haters your time.

So very glad you did this one. Simply stunning a-capella by John & his entire band. The amount of talent is overwhelming. Again, John always willing to share the spotlight & highlight his amazing musicians. A true mark of the man. There is also video of John performing Superstition in the late 70s somewhere on KZfaq. I've been to see other very well known bands in Sydney specifically because Vanetta was in the mix. She's sung or recorded with Richard Clapton, Australian Crawl, Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barnes, James Morrison and John Farnham.
