It's called kingsday now, it's on the kings birthday :) The reason that we celebrated the queens birthday on her mothers birthday is: The queens birthday is at the 31st of january, but in Holland, it's way too cold to put your shit in front of your house in january.

hahaha, thats just another weird thing in Holland! A few moths ago I stood near a "rookpaal" at Den Haag/The Hague Central Station and a German man and woman came to me. The man asked what the sign on the pole meant: A pole with an ashtray and a sign on top of a cigaret with a red line through it,, and around that pole all Dutch people come to smoke xD It must be very confusing for foreigners to understand xD

So we were in class and my friend goes ‘what’s hemelvaart again.’ To which I replie ‘ it’s the heaven went to jesus’ and then my other friend went ‘ wait, heaven went to jesus? Is it some sort of a boat or something like that?’ To which my first friend replied ‘it’s a speedboat and jesus had to run over the water to catch up with it.’ And that was the day that We figured out heaven was a speedboat during physics.

And, talking abour Koninginnedag, I am now living in New Zealand, and the Queen's birthday here is...... the first Monday in June. Every year :). It is really true. The funniest part about Hemelvaart is that the day after Hemelvaart is also a holiday. Not because something important happened that day. No, it's only because Hemelvaart is always on a Thursday (apparently Jesus defied the laws of time or something), and then 'it would be stupid' to have a free day (Hemelvaart), then go to work, and then have free time again (Weekend). We have the weirdest 'holidays'. Especially if we talk about Pinksteren and Hemelvaart and all those other strange Christian holidays that we still only celebrate as an excuse for more free time (because as far as I know, the majority of NL is athiest).

We have Pingst, Annandag Pingst, Kristi Himmelsfartsdag in Sweden too. But we don't have a Queen's Day. We have Midsummer and First of May, however! Protestant countries....
