Part of the reason about a year later he tapped out. They were suddenly at a level he wasn’t comfortable with at his age. He just wanted to rock and stardom brought a lot of pressure.

He’s not exactly under rated. He’s pretty damn well regarded. There’s a segment of people in the guitar world…mostly amateurs that are weird elitist snobs that think technical proficiency or playing in weird jazz scales makes an iconic guitarist. But they’re just sad salty people who think playing blues rock and funk guitar is cheap. Ignoring timing, rhythm , tone, and feel. The same people that say “Hendrix was good but he played sloppy…” Anybody who knows and isn’t a hater puts him up there.

@@AlfimAlves I’m in my mid 30s and I’ve literally been singing for 22 years now. I’ve sang everywhere from church, to school. I was literally in my church choir for majority of my youth! And when I say youth I mean YOUTH! My grandfather was the pastor of his very own church and there was no I don’t want to go, I don’t feel good, it was literally blind, crippled, or crazy “Oh don’t feel good you gone go to church and participate! And maybe you participating the Lord may heal you!” Lol. I’m exaggerating about what my Grandpa would say, but best believe we were in church every Sunday and Wednesday. But I say that to say I’ve been singing longer than I’ve not been singing and he still sounds like a pack of wild cats going to work on a chalkboard!

The rock gods smiled the band when they sent John. He brought depth and added layers to the band with his singing ability and writing. I think besides his guitar genius he’s best backup singer in any band. Hes a major reason they sound stellar live.

From the beginning John wanted a more melo and "blueish" kinda sound for the Chili Peppers but Anthony was against it. Finally in John's second return he was able to put into the records all his repertoire and the rest is history...
