One of the most poignant, heart-wrenching, beautiful songs I've ever heard. I wish John Grant had been around to sing it to my 17-year-old self.

@@rednax3333 I remember when I discovered John Grant (around the release of Pale Green Ghosts), I was blown away by the music, his voice, the lyrics and his looks. I was obsessed with Green Ghosts & Queen of Denmark. and played the albums daily (sometimes multiple times a day). In those days I regularly woke up in the morning with one of his songs on my mind & that I was humming Caramel or Vietnam as I was making the coffee. Now -years later- I still like & listen to John Grant (His 2018 album Love is magic is one of my favourite albums from last year. John Grant belongs to that select group of musicians that have a special place in my heart, together with Kate Bush, Tori Amos, David Bowie & Regina Spektor.

I feel sorry for the humans that gave this a thumbs down, that are unable to feel joy and are loveless souls waking each day to a world through eyes of misery and despair. I am so very sorry for you .

You just want to live your life The best way you know how But they keep on telling you That you are not allowed They say you are sick That you should hang your head in shame They are pointing fingers And want you to take the blame There are days when people are So nasty and convincing They say things beyond belief That sting and leave you wincing And to boot they say their words Come straight down from above And they really seem to think That what they're doing counts as love This pain it is a glacier moving through you And carving out deep valleys And creating spectacular landscapes And nourishing the ground With precious minerals and other stuff So don't you become paralyzed with fear When things seem particularly rough Don't you pay them fuckers as they say no never mind They don't give two shits about you, it's the blind leading the blind What they want is commonly referred to as theocracy And what that boils down to is referred as hypocrisy Don't listen to anyone, get answers on your own Even if it means that sometimes you feel quite alone No one on this planet can tell you what to believe People like to talk a lot and they like to deceive This pain it is a glacier moving through you And carving out deep valleys And creating spectacular landscapes And nourishing the ground With precious minerals and other stuff So don't you become paralyzed with fear When things seem particularly rough

To me this song has the same feel as Queen`s Innuendo, a timeless vibe which only few songs can bring. I am happy that I am one of the few chosen who have listened to it due to its exclusivity and non-popularity. It`s good to be different and it`s good not to be part of the madding crowd. Thank you John!
@ThiefOfNavarre5 жыл бұрын
Non-popularity!? LOL. It has 100k views! I don't 100k views of my person in my lifetime. You have a rather modern view of popularity! The Beatles first single had less sales than this has views
