John Hacker served with First Platoon Alpha Company 1/6 Inf 198th LIB, "Gunfighters" Vietnam 1967-68. He fought at the battle of Lo Giang on Feb. 8, 1968, and at Hill 352 when Finnis McCleery was awarded the Medal of Honor. These are John's memories of his service.

Glad you made it back Mr. Hacker. I was with A Co. later on in 1968. Came home home a stretcher .

Glad you made it home John, hope you are well. I was the Forward Observer for A company 1st 46th Infantry 198th Light Infantry Brigade from October 1968 to May 1969.

thank you for sharing your experiences and memories. My brother served in the 101st in the A shau valley. Hit by an rpg somewhere around fire base Ripcord. He doesn't speak about it much.

Hack, thanks for sharing these memories, about real people....the chaplain & absolution, the flawed open field tactics at Lo Giang 31:20 , the Finnis MOH suggestion to the CO, the USMC hat....and terrific story about coming home to your family.
