John Jenkins. Shooter. Once upon a time, Jenkins was a scintillating sniper who led the nation in three pointers made per game when he was with Vanderbilt. He then went on to be drafted by the Atlanta Hawks. After many different stops around the world, John signed the NBA G League Ignite and well…caught fire.
While Jenkins is listed as 18th in G-League 3 point percentage, only Langston Galloway (92 - 198), Sam Merrill (86 - 195), and Cole Swider (89 - 204), come close to him on attempts on a better percentage. Yes, you can manipulate stats just about any way you want but in this case, shot percentage factoring in volume should count. At 42.4% from deep on 210 3 pointers attempted, Jenkins would finish in the top 4.
The 2x Tennessee Mr. Basketball has not only diversified his game some (47.3% from the field on 14.5 FG attempts per game), but also chose to join the G League Ignite knowing it would require him to take on a mentorship role as the squad is dedicated to developing top young prospects. He may never be known for his passing but Jenkins’ ability to weaponize his gravity and willingness to share the rock was evident this season and features heavily towards the back end of this video.
As a personal aside - I actually believed at the time that the 2012-13 Atlanta Hawks must have had the greatest post practice shooting competitions because they featured John Jenkins, Kyle Korver, and Anthony Morrow, and even DeShawn Stevenson and Lou Williams could really light it up from long range.
