prettyshinyspaghetti Southern California Public Radio remembers that in 1964 Lennon answered a question about whether he and the Beatles were about to leave show business by saying: "No ... unless we get shot or something." Additionally, Newsweek reports that in 1965 Lennon told a reporter: "We'll either go in a plane crash or I’ll be popped off by some loony."

John Lennon said that the only people he believed truly promoted peace were Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, and both were shot. He said that he wanted to follow in their footsteps (as in, be a promoter of peace) and he was shot as well.

Dale Henderson Exactly!, John Lennon was promoting peace and people were listening to him, I think There’s more to it than just Mark Chapman, people who have tried to make a difference in the world have been killed. 9.12.1980 was my 10th Birthday. John Lennon's killer has recently been denied parole for a tenth time and cannot apply for parole again until 2020. He should not ever be released. That is all.
@kevinskipp3029
@kevinskipp3029 5 жыл бұрын
@Jayne Eyre No...he has expressed regret and is a model prisoner. The reason he'll never get out is that no parole board wants to have to deal with the absolute sh*tstorm that it would cause. If he'd shot a random guy he'd have been out by now. If he'd shot a minor popstar he'd also have likely been out. But Lennon...he's got no chance of ever getting out no matter how he behaves or what he does or says.

@@kevinskipp3029 And such is how it should be. There'd be riots by old fogies like me if the murderer of John Lennon were to be let free. And when he dies his body should be dumped in mid-ocean between NA and Europe, weighted down by stone to sink to the bottom of that vast ocean. John was love and appreciated and his legend will live on.
@tyrese3745

Chapman is SO not getting out, ever. Period. Despite his good prison behavior over the past 38 years, it doesn't matter anymore. He took away on purpose, one of the greatest singer/songwriters that ever came from Liverpool, from his wife Yoko Ono, his two boys, and from every Beatle fans across the world. The Lord God may forgive Chapman and grant him eternal life come his judgement day, but us long-time fans just simply can't. He will be locked up until the day he dies, either by natural cause, disease, or suicide, whichever comes first.

I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth getting ready to go to bed, I clicked on the bathroom radio and heard, "We have a report that John Lennon was shot in Ne York tonight. How serious is unknown at this point." Startled I turned on the Monday Night Football game (New England v Miami) because "ABC Nightline with Ted Koppel" was going to follow the game. It was delayed because the game went into overtime. Then Howard Cosell announced it and when he said the three words "dead on arrival" I had a chill go up and down my spine that I hadn't had before or since.

Everyone has their own opinions, and someone doesn't need to be a fan of someone to feel sadness and sympathy over their loss. I myself am a big fan of the Beatles and of John Lennon's solo work, but I appreciate your weighing in on the tragic event of Dec. 8, 1980. John Lennon had some personal troubles and flaws, which he admitted to, but overtime he seemed to really try to improve himself, and a more peaceful, better world was something he genuinely wanted to see, and was interested in helping make this happen, if he could.

'emptied a gun' those words got me I violently pulled over and went into shock I saw the Ed Sullivan show and on my 9th b-day, saw The Beatles, live. I was 19 years old at that time. I'm watching tv late at night and my sister calls to say Lennon had been shot. Thinking (hoping) it was a minor injury, I switch channels to find any news on it. I settle on Monday Night Football just in time to hear Cosell say that John had been shot... and killed. The pain of that night has subsided but the disbelief still rings true 43 years later.

A BLAST: Just like a THUNDERBOLT A flame between the shoulders As ground rush up to meet me face A thought: "Now this is odd... 'I'm SHOT' sez I, (for, yes I was) T'was not as I'd IMAGINED... As mortal body hit the deck I thought: "I'm meeting GOD"... The rush of footsteps all about (Poor agitated Mother...) My lifeblood quickly running out Preparing for another I suddenly was up above And looking down at LENNON Who looked so frail and waifish Amongst the folks who gathered Half-in and more than halfway out Already on The Way... Tho' still some life left in the lad He simply cannot stay And like a giant ragdoll, Removed quickly from the scene Traffic lights - the noise of Life Of fellow Human Beans "LENNON" is what they all cried: John Lennon Lennon Lennon... As I hovered up above My old name echoed and repeated "Save Him - We Must Save Him" - In their thoughts and energy As if LENNON were the Ticket To Salvation It really was astounding Quite the spectacle, my friends And I marveled at their wild DETERMINATION The white walls of the hospital The stark wails of the fans The sadness of His family And His friends Yet YONDER now was beckoning And the wonder of it all As remembering: "Ah! We BEGIN AGAIN..." With JOY, remembered: WE DON'T DIE! It all came rushing through Embraced in Father-Mother's Love Knew We had God's work To do. And now mere words elude Him Yes, Wordsmith Wonder Lennon Except for one: A Signpost Accompanied by a Song And brightly lit By a single Star: "LENA." 👁❤🌟
