Probably my favorite John record but I'll be getting the 2CD version. Have a number of boxsets by various artists (Beatles, Paul solo, Dylan, Floyd) and find I only pull those out occasionally to play (play the individual studio and live albums a lot more) and hardly, if ever bother looking through or engaging with the bric-a-brac in the boxes apart from an occasional glance through the included books. Amazing package though if you have the loot to afford it.

I brought the Mind Games LP on the budget label MFP for £1.99 back in the early 80's and still have it. Just thought i'd mention that. :)

The Lennon estate have always been good at making the best possible version of these box sets affordable, but they've completely priced the average fan out of the market, each to their own, but i couldn't justify spending that kind of money!

If I were a vinyl guy I'd absolutely go for the uber box. Looks beautiful. I figured something like this was coming, as in the recent 6 Music interview Sean mentioned how impressed he was by the uber Harrison box. As it is, I only play CD and blu rays so it's an easy choice for me! I'm pleased that, in terms of audio, everything is available outside of the uber box, too.

Hello, great video thanks for the info. Still wondering....what are you going to order in the end? I will probably order the Super box with 6 CDs and 2 Blue Rays and the 2 vinyl version. Then later the book when that comes out in september. The super big box? Probably not, to expensive and difficult format to store anywhere in my shelf. Just takes to much space.

Now that is SOME collection!! I think this is perhaps the most "Bells & Whistles" I've ever come across for an album reissue. Realistically though, what are we supposed to do with any of this stuff? After the first few "Did you get the...?" conversations with friends how often will this stuff be looked at, or even thought about? Now the books however always interest me, as I often go back and re-read them. I wonder if there will be any complete unreleased tracks and demos like there was with All Things Must Pass? I rarely listen to outtakes more than once, but I listen to the unreleased stuff quite often. Thanks for the info Joe!! 🙂 Time to start budgeting for Walls And Bridges this time next year... 😉

This is one of many reasons I pay for Apple Music. I had a record collection going but every release was $40 or more for a 10 song album on 4 discs lol I can still hear the music for $10 a month 🤪

It's a limited luxury item. Sort of like the George wooden crate. As noted, there are plenty of other much more affordable editions. If you want it and can afford it, buy it. Otherwise, it's really not important what it costs. One thing not to lose track of, this is John's third best solo album. Proceed accordingly.

That cliffhanger at the end was hilarious!! I'm usually very positive with these box sets, but my first impression when seeing the tracklist across the 6 CD's was, it's disappointing to find out they don't appear to be including a disc covering all the existing demos, and no bonus songs that were recorded during the Mind Games sessions like "Rock and Roll People" or "I'm The Greatest". I think the "Uber" treatment should have gone to the Imagine album, but if the Super Deluxe Cube for this album makes anyone happy and they can afford it, more power to them! Looking forward to hearing your plans!! :) The music is what's most important, so the alternate version of the album that will be presented on the 2-CD version will do it for me.

That's a lot of money! Only a 1100 made world wide? That's a very limited record set with a lot of stuff. It would be a good investment to resell if you need money in 5 to 10 years for triple the amount.

Interesting, 190 comments at the time I write this and not a single person has said they think this box is great and they are going to buy it. Consensus seems to be the album is not strong enough to merit such a treatment (and I agree). Couple of other observations: the design of the box, based on the press photo, makes it appear as though the records are stored horizontally not vertically. If so will they warp over time? Also, one contrast with the ATMP release is that you could buy an 8 LP version of that set for £180 (which I have and love), ie get all the music on vinyl without having to buy the massive box and all the tinsel for a further £800 (or whatever it was). A bit cynical by the Lennon camp to ‘forget’ to offer this format. Will be interested to see if they manage to flog 1100 of these - I think they will struggle. Joe my advice would be take a cold shower and see if you still want this thing in 3 months’ time when the hype has died down! Sincere question: when did you last pull apart the ATMP super deluxe crate for the fun of it? Not trying to score points, just suggesting you shouldn’t torment yourself over this new Lennon box, the 6 CD and 2 LP sets may be a nice way to go and will save you a ton of money and space (and guilt?). It's Eliot Again. When it sells out, it makes me feel that I've made the right decision in purchasing it. I was up on the fence on this. I've purdchased the George Harrison Uber, and McCartney 80 Singles Box. For some reason, I had some hesitation on purchasing the Mind Games Super Deluxe Edition, but I did it!

Saw a interview with Sean saying they appreciated what the Harrison estate did and they wanted to celebrate John with one also. It is nice but not for everyone of course. They have the edition for us retired collectors as well. Take care Joe!

Wow! That super deluxe box set is nice, but I certainly cannot afford it. I might get the 2 vinyl Lp set or just hold off a while, because I know that the two Lp set is not a limited item. I would like to see the album eventually get released on colored vinyl or get released as zoetroppe picture discs.

There's something to be said about taking advantage of fans, especially those fanatical enough to keep buying any and everything thing with an artist's name attached to it. Of course, no one is forced to buy anything, but . . .

I bought the other Lennon box sets for "POB," "Imagine," and "Gimme Some Truth." I've bought all the recent Beatles boxes, a few of the deluxe Macca boxes, and even the skimpy "regular deluxe" "All Things Must Pass" box. The "Mind Games" super deluxe is cool but ridiculous, just like the "uber" ATMP crate, lol. I think I'm even going to pass on the "Mind Games" 6-disc. Might get the 2-disc eventually, (like I do for most of the McCartney Archive releases), but even then I'm on the fence about that one. I'm fine with the CD remaster I already have, so the outtakes would have to be pretty great. Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell give a lot more 'bang for the buck' with their Archive releases. Bowie's upcoming "Rock 'n Roll Star!" looks way more loaded as well.

The big difference is that All Things Must Pass is a much stronger album than Mind Games with far more music on it, so the Harrison uber box I can understand some people buying. Mind Games is good, but they should have done this for one of Lennon's better albums, like Plastic Ono Band or Imagine, this just makes no sense.

Considering after shipping and taxes you’re looking at $1500 and when all the music and deluxe edition materials is almost $200 you’re basically spending $1300 on superfluous stuff. I’m not at all a big fan of $1000 box sets filled with extra junk that isn’t music but when a single disc album that isnt close to the artist’s best work is priced higher than the triple box ATMP… it’s sounds like a joke.

Comprising, not compromising

I see a lot of filler. I’m content with the two disc set. Do they have a one disc this time? I don’t think they do. I’m more interested in B Sides or unreleased tracks which clearly there aren’t any. I’m not interested in rough mixes etc. That being said the ultimate remixes thus far have sounded amazing and I will definitely purchase the remixed album.

Well, after doing a lot of thinking, I’m gonna end up pre-ordering the vinyl and two CD disk set. Just because I know I will listen to both of these a lot more. with the box set I will listen to the whole thing one time and that’s it. I’m sure it’s a great set. Now I’m talking about the lower priced one lol but I don’t collect things just to look at it. I like to listen to it and I do like demos and stuff like that but small amounts. Plus, I can always listen to the whole box set on Apple Music so this is a good decision on my part

I guess it will not be on my birthday or christmas list this year. I will have to go cut a few lawns to earn enough money to get just the 2 CD set. Otherwise I look forward to the release. take care

2 CD is fine for me, too many things in the super deluxe version, they would end up gathering dust in the shelf

The right Choice for getting all of the material Musicwise and a decent Deluxe presentation, Both Visual and haptic👍🏻 But anyway I have no Problem at all with the big Uber Box. Mind Games is one of my all time favorite songs. It should have been #1 . The album is good but not great. I can’t see spending $1350 on an album that is NOT that great. Walls and Bridges is better IMO

It seems they are finding things to fill a cube. What relevance are reproductions of 1960s artwork to this set from the 70s? And zoetrope vinyls of records already included? I’m ok with fun memorabilia, but keep it relevant and reduce the price.
