“The hardest part for an actor to play is that of a fool”. This quote attributed to Shakespeare applies to the whole cast of 3rd Rock. They were brilliant in their absurdity. They were not afraid to make fools of themselves for the laughs. Nothing was out of bounds. They explored and questioned everyday human behaviors and events with uninhibited eyes. We need more shows like this.
@treatb09
@treatb09 2 жыл бұрын
But then it wouldnt be as natural. Their honest investment. With a hint of smaller stage acting. The moments you see them experiment with their roles yet it was on tv. When they almost break character from their absurdity. You couldnt achieve this today. Tv was newer then, atleast for pure experimentation. The 90’s were very unique in how people were expressing themselves. Right now. We have entered a more modern late 70’s to 80’s recurrence. Generational gaps and how the mainstream aura cycles is predictable. The silly homely antics of the 90’s dates back to the 50’s and 60’s. While the overbearing feel of good from early 00’s that rips the generation’s perceptions apart causes the sort of underground vs comformity of success and physical sociopathic superficiality. That drives the next generation to feel a bit of mockery to being all too serious about the things that dont really matter. Where this show clearly found underlying traits of humanity to justify and explain both artistically. This sort of show cant exist because the projection of income and success is too risky of an option. Looking at music alone. People listen to repetitive garbage. While the 90’s had experimentation. Unknowns. Wonder of whats next in a new technological era. Just as the 50’s were. Then the 60’s. You hit a stride in economics and society. People settle in. Invest in image and forget what wonder truly does for innocents of people because that is viewed as worthless. Its not a physical gain, obtaining more over man and one another. You see this psychologically from the inability to have that honest love. So to justify it. People take whatever they can from one another. N because we have so much technology now. The lust for equity vs true emotional attachments is far more coercive.

One of our living phenomena of entertainment. Mr. Lithgow was given such a gift in 3rd Rock from the Sun because it allowed him carte blanche as an actor-- to play an evil doppelganger, to be a substitute high school acting director who is a diva, to pretend to be a woman in order to infiltrate a club meeting, to sing "That's Amore" with gusto and verve ... it goes on and on. I would have loved to have seen him act on the stage, like in the play All My Sons. Must have been electric. I hope life has brought him good things along the road because he is so deserving of it, and has given such joy to television and film and play audiences and to children's book lovers and also music lovers. Plus, he seems in real life to be such a genuine and winning personality. One of the good ones.

One of the first episodes I ever saw, was the one where he learnt what "tipping" in restaurants was. He had a pile of dollar bills on the table and whenever the waiter did something he didn't approve of, he'd then remove a dollar from the pile. Eventually running out of dollar bills.

Who remembers him in; “the world according to Garp?” As a kid we laughed at his character,(which he Nailed!!!) shortly after the hits began to flow from the man. A true master of his craft and one of my all time favorites. How many of you remember when he played in the twilight zone movie clip, “There’s something on the wing?”

My first memory of John Lithgow is from the 1985 movie "Santa Claus" along with the great Dudley Moore. Loved it so much as a kid I bought it on DVD about 3 months ago and I'm 43 now.

I was terrified of him when I was a kid because of this movie. But adored him in 3rd rock.

My first memory of John Lithgow is devilishly eating mouthfuls of magical candy canes and jumping out of a window in, Santa Claus The Movie. My 7 year old self was so tickled that I tipped over in delight and pressed rewind multiple times.😀

3rd Rock captures the comic genius of all those wonderful cast members with Jon in the lead. Couldn't help but to notice his books and the great John Irving on his shelf. One magnificent talent to another.

I have watched Third Rock on Amazon Prime Video where actor bios and quotes are accessible and Wayne Knight said the show is really still popular in British Columbia, it made me feel special. I think it should be piped into every hospital. Might blow a few stitches but who notices that when laughing your ass off.
