Yeah dude. I was lucky enough to see them in 2001 in Winston-Salem NC at Ziggy’s when they played with Nile. Both bands were phenomenal live. I was blown away by John behind the kit looking like a machine showing no fatigue signs at all. Plus Origin play there songs faster live which is a real treat to see/hear. Origin still has a great energy live though.

Ridiculous over-the-top awesome. Of the several times I've seen Origin live, I remember the first time I saw them around the turn of the millennium. I stood there mesmerized by the absolute superhuman drumming. Remembering Dave Lombardo's double bass break on the the track Angel of Death from Slayer's 1986 masterpiece album Reign in Blood (which, as a teenage drummer back then, was incredible for its time), when I saw Origin live for the first time, John did that double bass break but faster and held it from one song through the break between songs into the next song. I was completely captivated. At the time (circa 2000) it was the next step beyond for drumming. The next level in the progression of badassery. Nowadays, of course, extreme drummers start from there and get crazier and even more insanely over-the-top. I love it. The true masters of the beat. John makes it look so second nature. Just blows me away how such drumming greatness is made to look so effortless. Shows you the level of talent with extreme drummers. Just life-changingly epic.

Gotta say I'd love to see some videos of John cranking out some old Angel Corpse tunes... Christhammer or Wartorn would amazing! Angel Corpse's "Exterminate" album is still in rotation for me after all these years. 20+ years later those songs should be a piece of cake for him compared to what he's doing in Origin. Although, he probably wouldn't even want to play any of those songs... I know the drum tracks on that record were edited to hell and back and the recording of that album didn't go so well for the band which I think lead to John's departure which was not on good terms.... though I could be wrong.
@Paradis80
@Paradis80 5 ай бұрын
I would love to see him play both those tracks as well, but i think you're right... Though I've never "looked it up" or spend any time digging, I'd heard similar things about Exterminate... When Origin's ST album came out, the local metal head at the record store was like "Check this out dude, it's the craziest thing you ever heard. The drummer from AngelCorpse was kicked out for not being fast enough, so he went into hiding and practice nonstop for 2 years and dropped this bomb!..." it was a story that captured my attention, anyway

Don't get me wrong: I'm a fan, and I loved watching them live, and I'm not even a drummer ... but this audio is pretty clearly not matching up with the video, right? Why are we getting the studio version vs the real audio of his playing?
@lordmarco
@lordmarco Жыл бұрын
Ya I noticed that too. However I believe the "actual take" used for the video is on the camera that is near his floor tom (right side) ... 0:17 I could be wrong, but ya, I'm assuming they wanted to make a Multicam angle video and probably only have 1 or 2 cameras. And then he just played the song like 5 times and they took clips from each camera 🤷‍♂️ This is why I personally just use 1 camera and that is it. So you can tell it is the 1 Live take. (Plus I only have 1 camera 😅) Aside from that we all know John rules 🤘🏻

@@lordmarco I appreciate a response from a man who knows! I'd lean to having "only" 1 camera view if that's what it takes to get sync'd audio/video...IMO playthrough videos demonstrate talent on the instrument not video editing. Maybe the multiple angles get more views, etc.? (I know for guitar too it seems en vogue to have 5 different views and cut back and forth every 0.2 seconds because OH THE MUSIC IS INTENSE THE CAMERA JUMPS SHOULD BE TOO!) But again I'm not criticizing anyone involved, just my two cents. Love the exposure for this kind of music!

So the DVD has been shot twice. The first time it was shot they ran into some sort of transcoding error and they said it couldn't be saved. We shot it again and put a bunch of our own money into it and it was going smooth albeit a bit slow, and then covid happened. It's now done, and we will be announcing a release date soon. Unfortunately most of it is out of my hands, but it's going to happen. My apologies for how long it has taken. It's been a thorn in my side for way too long.
