the scary part is he's even better now, this was four years ago.. saw them for the 4th time last week, he uses a single bass kit now, and was switching from reg. doubles to heel toe in different parts of the new songs, amazing!!

In this video he wasn't using heel toe, I think he started doing heel toe around antithesis. In this vid he is using like all legs.

@CombustiblPlantMater yeah dude he's very underrated. definately one of my favorites. another awesome drummer who probably is the most underrated is Andy Schroeder from Vehemence. that band is super underground. i definately reccomend the album "god was created" if you've never heard of them.

@burythebody666 axis longboards. He plays "flat" because he does heel toe stroke.

He uses Heel Toe technique. Does doubles on most stuff except blasting.

I'm not a drummer but would like to know the difference between 8th, 16th notes etc. never understood it when it comes to people arguing over drummers like john

interesting pedal technique. his legs are way extended. almost looks like he is a heel down player to me? i think he switches back and forth from heel up to heel down. can't hear the kicks but the snare sure cuts through. must be the camera angle?

@logsy1014 I know what some people like Sean Reinert do is position the hi-hat pedal on the inside of the second bass pedal, that way they can still play double bass patterns with the ball of their foot while the heel can control the hi-hat. I'm not sure if this is what John does, but may be worth trying out? I hope this helps
